  1. CEMENT

53.1 Minimum wagon loads and rates
Cement (for bulk cement in specially constructed containers see clause 53.4), subject to minimum wagon loads of 12 tonnes each four wheeled wagon or 24 tonnes each bogie wagon, shall be charged at the following rates:

53.2 Owner’s risk
The foregoing rates are at “limited carrier’s risk” and will be reduced by two percent where consignors require that the consignment be carried at “owner’s risk”.

53.3 Loads under minimum
Any less quantity than the wagon load minimum prescribed shall be charged at such minimum, or on the actual weight at the class E rate plus 50 percent, whichever is cheaper.

53.4 Bulk cement
Bulk cement conveyed in specially constructed containers as approved by the Corporation shall be charged as follows:

53.4.1 Conveyed in railway-owned containers on railway owned wagons: on net weight of cement at the classified rate for cement n.o.s. plus 62 cents per tonne.

53.4.2 Conveyed in privately owned containers on railway owned wagons: on net weight of cement at the classified rate for cement n.o.s.

53.4.3 Conveyed in privately owned containers on privately owned wagons: on net weight of cement at the classified rate for cement n.o.s. less the following reductions:

53.5 Cranage
Containers for cement shall be craned free of charge.

53.6 Empty containers
With the exception of shunting charges to or from private sidings (where applicable), no charge shall be made for hauling empty cement containers or wagons.

53.7 Handling
The Corporation may require all loading and unloading to be performed by the owners.

  1. FOOD PRODUCTS AND CLOTHING FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES

54.1 Charitable institutions
Food products, coal, firewood, citrus fruit and clothing donated to charitable institutions (other than orphanages and Maori mission fields) for use within New Zealand and not for sale, shall be carried as parcels or goods traffic at “owner’s risk”, at half the appropriate rates, on the authority of the General Manager of the Corporation and subject to compliance with the provisions of the Carriage of Goods Act 1979. Written application for the concession must be made to the General Manager of the Corporation at least 14 days before the goods are presented for carriage.
