The Taupo County Council (Review of Basis of Election Validation) Order 1982

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government House at Wellington this 20th day of December 1982

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL

Whereas the Taupo County Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council) was required by section 56 (1) of the Local Government Act 1974 to determine the basis of election of the Council and to fix the number of members of the Council by special order made not later than 15 months before the 8th day of October 1983, the date on which the next general election of the Council is to be held: And whereas the basis of the election of the Council was determined after the time specified in the said section 56 (1) in that the resolution to make the special order determining the basis of the election was passed by the Council on the 28th day of September 1982 and confirmed by the Council on the 9th day of November 1982:

Now, therefore, pursuant to section 719 of the Local Government Act 1974 (as enacted by section 2 of the Local Government Amendment Act 1979), His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This order may be cited as the Taupo County Council (Review of Basis of Election Validation) Order 1982.

(2) This order shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette


  1. Validation—The basis of election of the Council that was determined by the special order so confirmed on the 9th day of November 1982 is hereby declared to be and to always have been validly determined by that special order, notwithstanding that it was determined after the time within which it was required, by section 56 (1) of the Local Government Act 1974, to be determined.

Honours and Awards

His Excellency The Governor-General has announced the following awards of The Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct and Valuable Service in the Air:

THE QUEEN’S COMMENDATION FOR BRAVE CONDUCT

Graham John WRIGHT, of Kerikeri.

Kenneth John WOOD, of Kerikeri.

For services on 19/20 March 1981 during a flash flood at Kerikeri, when under hazardous conditions they rescued a woman from her home and undoubtedly saved her life.

Colin Purvis SISSON, of Auckland.

For services on 27 November 1981 when he rescued the driver of a vehicle which on a corner had gone out of control, rolled over and burst into flames. By prompt action he saved the life of the driver.

Peter George BENNETT, Constable, New Zealand Police, of Ross.

For services on 16 November 1981 when, with helicopter Pilot J. F. Dixon, he helped rescue a woman from a fishing vessel which was experiencing extremely rough seas off Okarito Lagoon in South Westland.

Timothy Hungerford MORGAN, Deck Cadet (now Third Officer), The Shipping Corporation of New Zealand, Ltd., of Auckland.
