KEITH HOLYOAKE, Governor-General

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 11th day of August 1980

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. R. D. MULDOON PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

WHEREAS, pursuant to section 56 (1) of the Local Government Act 1974 (as enacted by section 2 of the Local Government Amendment Act (No. 3) 1977), the Featherston County Council (hereinafter referred to as the council) resolved by special order made on the 6th day of July 1979 that at the general election of the council to be held on the 11th day of October 1980 the council should be elected by the electors of each ward of the county: And whereas, by section 56 (2) of the Local Government Act 1974 (as so enacted), the council was required, not later than the 30th day of September 1979, to determine by special order the boundaries and names of the ridings of the county for the purposes of that election and the number of members to be elected to represent each riding: And whereas the Council determined by special order, made not later than the 30th day of September 1979, the names of the ridings for the purposes of that election and the number of members to be elected to represent each riding but did not determine by that special order the boundaries of the ridings: And whereas the boundaries of the ridings were determined by a special order that was made by the council on the 26th day of October 1979 and were therefore not determined within the time specified in the said section 56 (2): And whereas it is expedient that the determination of the boundaries be validated: And whereas, on the 18th day of February 1980, the Governor-General made an Order in Council validating the special order made by the Featherston County Council on the 26th day of October 1979: And whereas the Order in Council contained an error in that it recited in the Preamble that the County Council had resolved by the special order made on the 6th day of July 1979 that at the general election of the council to be held on the 11th day of October 1980 the council should be elected by the electors of the county as a whole: And whereas the Council resolved by the said special order made on the 6th day of July 1979 that at the said general election the council should be elected by the electors of each ward of the county: And whereas it is expedient that the said Order in Council, which has not been gazetted, should be revoked:
