(d) Whether the equipment provided for the operation of the said services is adequate in the event of an aircraft accident on, or in the vicinity of, each airport, and whether such equipment compares with that provided at similar airports in other countries and, if not, the additional or other equipment which is necessary or desirable;

(e) The manning scales established at each airport and the staff numbers which are required to efficiently carry out the duties and responsibilities of the rescue and fire units;

(f) Whether a system of inspections or testing of the efficiency of the said services exists, and, if not, the system or systems which should be introduced;

(g) Whether any special or additional skills or services are considered necessary or desirable at any particular airport, and, if any, the additional resources (including staff) required to provide those special or additional skills or services;

(h) The ground safety organisation at each airport and whether it is organised and equipped to provide adequate safety and medical support services in the event of a major aircraft accident;

(i) Whether any changes in the law, practice, or administration of the said rescue and fire services, including ground safety organisations, are necessary or desirable;

(j) The adequacy of the operations of Air New Zealand Limited relating to:
(i) The procedures and documentation laid down by Air New Zealand Limited for the servicing, maintenance, loading, and operation of its aircraft to ensure appropriate safety standards are maintained;
(ii) The training provided to all employees directly associated with the operation of its aircraft to ensure appropriate safety standards are maintained;
(iii) The equipment provided in respect of the operation of aircraft to ensure the safety of those travelling in the aircraft and the safe carriage of freight and baggage;

(k) Any other matters that may be thought by you to be relevant to the general objects of the inquiry.

  1. The Commission invites interested persons and organisations to make representations or present evidence to it on all or any of the matters which form the subject of its inquiry. Such submissions together with notification of intention to appear before the Commission should be made in writing to the Secretary, Commission of Inquiry into Rescue and Fire Services at International Airports, P.O. Box 11-343, Manners Street, Wellington.

  2. The Commission proposes to hold its first public sitting, which will be open to the public, at 10.00 a.m. on 16 October on the Eighth Floor, Commerce House, 126 Wakefield Street, Wellington.

At this meeting the Commission will inform those present of the procedures which it will follow in the conduct of its business and will take appearances. The Commission will then adjourn and will subsequently conduct public hearings at dates and venues of which public notice will be given.

  1. The Commission asks that submissions be forwarded to it to be in the hands of the Secretary no later than 6 December 1979. If possible each person or organisation wishing to make submissions should send to the Secretary 30 copies of the submission. The name of the person(s) who will represent the organisation should also be stated.

Notice Declaring Class B Noxious Plants Throughout New Zealand (Notice No. 2234, Ag. 12/10/10)

PURSUANT to section 19 of the Noxious Plants Act 1978, the Noxious Plants Council hereby declares the following plants to be Class B noxious plants throughout New Zealand:

Australian sedge (Carex longebrachiata);

barberry (Berberis glaucocarpa);

blackberry (Rubus fruticosus and Rubus laciniatus);

boxthorn (Lycium ferocissimum);

broom (Cytisus scoparius);

Cape tulip (Homeria collina);

collsfoot (Tussilago farfara);

Darwins barberry (Berberis darwinii);

gorse (Ulex spp.);

hemlock (Conium maculatum);

nassella tussock (Nassella trichotoma);

nodding thistle (Carduus nutans);

ragwort (Senecio jacobaea);

sweet brier (Rosa rubiginosa);

water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes).

This notice shall come into effect on the 1st day of October 1979.

Maori Land Court Sittings—Maori Appellate Court Sittings

NOTICE is hereby given that sittings of the Maori Appellate Court and of the Maori Land Court will be held during the year 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1980 at the places and commencing on the dates referred to in the Schedule hereto.

The hour of commencement of each sitting (and the date and place thereof in the case of the Maori Appellate Court) will be notified in the relevant panel. If any date referred to in the Schedule is varied, the varied date will be notified in the panel.
