Approvals Given to Forms of Entry Permits by Ministers of Immigration

The following approvals are hereby published for general information:

MEMORANDUM for:
The Minister of Immigration,
Parliament Buildings,
Wellington.

As a preliminary to introducing a system of stamping entry permits in passports instead of issuing permits in document form as at present, the Immigration Restriction Regulations 1930 were amended in 1962 (1962/22 Amendment No. 8) to provide that any form of entry permit approved by the Minister of Immigration would deem to be a prescribed form for the purposes of Part I of the Immigration Restriction Amendment Act 1920. In a few months’ time when instructions to overseas posts and to Collectors of Customs have been rewritten, a system of stamping passports will be introduced universally. At the present time, however, British subjects wholly of European origin are given a permanent entry stamp in their passports in order to comply technically with the 1961 amendment to the Act providing that all persons other than New Zealand citizens be subject to entry permit requirements. From 1 February this year Fiji visitors, as a part of the new procedure by which applications will be decided in Fiji, will receive temporary permits stamped in their passports. I would therefore recommend that in terms of Regulation 2 of Amendment No. 8 (1962/22) to the Immigration Restriction Regulations 1930, you approve of entry permits in the following form for endorsement in passports of people entering New Zealand, subject to the provisions of the Immigration Restriction Act 1908 and its amendments.
