ART IN SCHOOLS—The New Zealand Experience
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Illustrated, coloured and black and white plates.
320 p. 1978 $14.25
The books sets out to show that art is a useful part of education, that art can join in with other subjects, or can stand on its own, and that it can draw in all sorts of people—children, teachers with or without specialist training, and parents.
Outlines the programmes, projects and many different activities that have been carried out in various schools throughout New Zealand. Projects have been selected which best illustrate the topic under discussion; in no way do they represent the full range of art education, nor the finest work being done.

BETWEEN GOVERNMENTS AND BANKS
By Dr Hawke
244 p. $7.50
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand was established in 1933-34 but today’s institution bears little resemblance to the one that was originally constructed by the 1933 legislation. The author, with a combination of historical and economic skill, covers the story and makes an assessment of the Bank’s performance to date. A valuable contribution to New Zealand’s historical record.
