  1. Miscellaneous Concessions—continued

(c) Restrictions—Tickets at section 3 fares less 10 percent are not available on the Silver Star sleeper train service during the following periods—
(i) Queen’s Birthday and Labour Day.
(ii) Easter weekend, from Thursday to the following Tuesday inclusive.
(iii) Over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
(iv) Other public holidays.

Note: Concession tickets are not available for travel by the “Silver Fern” railcar services.

(d) Tickets issued under the provisions of this section must be purchased not later than 30 minutes before the departure time of the train service for which such tickets are to be used. The department reserves the right to decline any application for tickets under the provisions of this section.

  1. Concession fares in terms of this section may be granted on application, as follows:
Concession Granted to Minimum Number of Passengers to Whom the Concession May be Granted Conditions
(a) Persons travelling from various stations to participate in a specific gathering or event, e.g., conference, competition, instructional, educational or recreational activities, etc., also families of such persons who may be accompanying them. Note: Each application for tickets must be supported by a certificate in the following form— 20 Applications, specifying the dates between which the conferences, contests, camps, and similar gatherings, will be held, and the name of the person who will sign certificates on behalf of the controlling body, should be made to the General Manager, not less than 2 months before the date of commencement of the gathering concerned.

Concession Granted to Minimum Number of Passengers to Whom the Concession May be Granted Conditions
(b) Groups of six travelling together between any two stations. Note: Each application for must be supported by a certificate in the following form— I hereby certify that ……………………………………… members of the ……………………………………… organisation, club, etc., are travelling from ……………………………………… to ……………………………………… Authorised Officer. 6 Subject to reasonable notice being given, a certificate authorising concession will be issued by any District Traffic Manager, Stationmaster, or Commercial Agent of the Railways Department upon application. Members of a team or club under 15 years of age included in a party or forming a party, will be charged half the adult concession fare. In such cases the minimum number travelling will be equivalent to six adult passengers.

(c) Youth Organisations— (i) Members of the following organisations, in parties of not less than six, including officers in charge of such parties, travelling in uniform to attend parades or instruction camps: Boy Scouts. Boys Brigade. Girl Guides. Girls Brigade Navy League Sea Cadets. Red Cross Cadets. Red Cross Link Cadets. St. John Ambulance Brigade Cadets. (ii) Lone Scouts in uniform travelling to Scout camps. 6 Each application for tickets must be supported by a certificate in the following form:— I hereby certify that ……………………………………… members of the ……………………………………… organisation are travelling in uniform from ……………………………………… to ……………………………………… to attend a parade (or instruction camp) at ……………………………………… on ……………………………………… Authorising Officer. Application for tickets must be accompanied by a certificate in the foregoing form signed by the Dominion Commissioner for Lone Scouts, or the Secretary, Boy Scouts Association (N.Z.) Inc
