Boundaries of Hurunui County Defined

PURSUANT to section 16 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Local Government hereby redefines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Hurunui County following the union of the Counties of Ashley and Waipara to form the Hurunui County by Order in Council made on 2 May 1977 and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 49, 5 May 1977, page 1264.

SCHEDULE
HURUNUI COUNTY

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District containing 3717 square kilometres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing on the mean high-water mark of the sea in the middle of the Ashley River, Block VIII, Rangiora Survey District, and proceeding westerly generally and northerly generally up the middle of that river and its production to Ashley Head, Block XII, Esk Survey District; thence north-westerly generally along the summit of the Puketeraki Range to Esk Head, Block I, Okuku Survey District; thence north-easterly generally along that summit to Hope Pass, Block X, Marion Survey District; thence south-easterly by a right line to a point on the right (southern) bank of the Hope River, 800 metres approximately west of Trig. H (Niggerhead) Block XV, Marion Survey District; thence south-easterly by a right line to the northernmost point of Lake Marion; thence southerly along the eastern shore of that lake, and along the middle of Marion Stream to the generally north-eastern shore of Lake Sumner; thence south-easterly along that shore to the left (northern) bank of the Hurunui River; thence due east along a right line for a distance of 5.2 kilometres approximately; thence south-easterly by a right line to Ben Cliberick on the Hooligan Range, Block XI, Mython Survey District; thence north-easterly along a right line for a distance of 3.6 kilometres approximately to a point on the north-western boundary of Lot 2, D.P. 6080, 100 metres approximately from the northernmost corner of the said Lot 2, D.P. 2275, comprised in C.T. 7D/1188; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that lot and its production to south-eastern side of the road forming the north-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4271; thence south-easterly along that roadside, and southerly along the south-eastern side of Blythe Road and the south-western side of the production of the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Rural Section 37820; thence south-easterly along that roadside to its intersection with the south-eastern boundary of that section and the production of the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Rural Section 37820, to the westernmost corner of Rural Section 40426; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that section and its production across a road to the mean high-water mark of the sea; thence south-westerly generally along that mean high water mark to the point of commencement.
