Special Order Made by Christchurch City Council to Permit the Alteration of the Ward Boundaries

PURSUANT to section 24 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, I hereby publish the following Special Order made by the Christchurch City Council. The provisions of the Special Order will take effect from 1 September 1977.

SPECIAL ORDER

THAT the public notice, required by section 77 (c) of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, having been given in the Christchurch Star newspaper on Wednesday, 20 October 1976, and on Wednesday, 3 November 1976, the following resolution passed by way of Special Order at an ordinary meeting of the Council on Monday, the 18th day of October 1976, be, and the same is hereby, confirmed, namely:

Notice of intention to consider the subject matter hereof having been given to all members before this meeting in accordance with its rules of procedure, the Christchurch City Council hereby resolves by way of Special Order, pursuant to the powers conferred by section 23 (1) (a) of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, to alter the boundaries of the wards of the City of Christchurch in the manner, defined in the Schedule hereto, and further resolves that this Special Order shall take effect from the 1st day of September 1977, except in so far as and to such extent as may be necessary for providing for the next triennial general election of the council.

SCHEDULE

WEST WARD

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, City of Christchurch, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the northern boundary of the City of Christchurch, as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1968, page 1258, Lot 2, D.P. 14508, and the north-western side of Tomes Road, and proceeding south-easterly to and along the middle of Rutland Street and its production to the middle of St Albans Street; thence south-westerly along the middle of that street to a point in line with the middle of Springfield Road; thence south-easterly and southerly to and along the middle of that road and its production to the middle of Bealey Avenue; thence easterly along the middle of that avenue to the middle of Colombo Street; thence southerly along the middle of that street to the middle of Oxford Terrace; thence south-westerly along the middle of that terrace and its production to a point in line with the middle of Riccarton Avenue; thence north-westerly to and along the middle of that avenue and its production to the middle of Deans Avenue, being a point on the western boundary of the City of Christchurch, as described aforesaid; thence northerly and easterly generally along the western and northern boundaries of that city to the point of commencement.

NORTH WARD

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, City of Christchurch, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the northern boundary of the City of Christchurch as described aforesaid and the eastern boundary of the West Ward, hereinbefore described, and proceeding easterly along the said northern boundary to a point in line with the middle of Horseshoe Lake Road; thence southerly generally to and along the middle of that road and Broomfield Terrace and its production to the middle of Kingsford Street; thence southerly along the middle of that street and its production to and along the middle of New Brighton Road; thence south-westerly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the middle of Cresswell Avenue; thence south-westerly to and along the middle of that avenue to a point in line with the middle of Gayhurst Road; thence southerly to and along the middle of that road to the middle of McBratneys Road; thence easterly along the middle of that road and its production to the middle of that river and Kerrs Reach to a right line bearing 315Β° from the intersection of the middle of Avonside Drive and the production of the middle of Kerrs Road; thence south-easterly along that line to that intersection; thence southerly to and along the middle of Kerrs Road to the middle of Buckleys Road; thence south-westerly along the middle of that road and its production to the middle of Linwood Avenue; thence north-westerly along the middle of that avenue and its production to the middle of the Avon River; thence westerly generally up the middle of that river to the middle of Colombo Street being a point on the eastern boundary of the West Ward, hereinbefore described; thence northerly along that boundary to the point of commencement.

PEGASUS WARD

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, City of Christchurch, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the northern boundary of the City of Christchurch, as described aforesaid and the eastern boundary of the North Ward, hereinbefore described and proceeding easterly and southerly along the northern and eastern boundaries of the said city to the mean high-water mark of the sea at Cave Rock; thence north-westerly generally along the mean high-water mark of the sea and of the estuary of the Avon and Heathcote Rivers to the northern side of Beachville Road; thence westerly generally along the northern side of that road and Main Road to a point in line with the middle of Linwood Avenue; thence north-westerly to and along the middle of that avenue to the middle of Dyers Road; thence north-easterly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the middle of Maces Road; thence north-westerly to and along the middle of that road to a point in line with the middle of Bromley Road; thence westerly to and along the middle of that road and its production to the middle of Keighleys Road; thence north-westerly along the middle of that road and McGregors Road to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Rural Section 40295; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of Butterfield Avenue; thence north-westerly along the middle of that avenue and its production to the middle of Buckleys Road being a point on the eastern boundary of the North Ward, hereinbefore described; thence northerly along that boundary to the point of commencement.

EAST WARD

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, City of Christchurch, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the eastern boundary of the City of Christchurch, as described aforesaid, and the south-western boundary of the Pegasus Ward, hereinbefore described, and proceeding southerly and westerly along the eastern and southern boundaries of the said city to the middle of the Heathcote River in line with the northern side of Burnbrae Street; thence north-easterly down the middle of that river to a point in line with the middle of the Christchurch-Lyttelton Railway; thence north-westerly along the middle of that railway to the middle of the overbridge at Waltham Road; thence due north to the middle of Moorhouse Avenue; thence easterly along the middle of that avenue to a point in line with the middle of Fitzgerald Avenue; thence northerly to and along the middle of that street and its production to the middle of St Asaph Street; thence easterly along the middle of that street to a point in line with the middle of the eastern carriageway of Latimer Square; thence northerly to and along the middle of that carriageway and its production to the middle of Gloucester Street; thence westerly along the middle of that street to a point in line with the middle of Madras Street; thence northerly to and along the middle of that street to the middle of the Avon River being a point on the southern boundary of the North Ward hereinbefore described; thence easterly along that boundary to the south-western boundary of the Pegasus Ward hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the point of commencement.

SOUTH WARD

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, City of Christchurch, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the southern boundary of the City of Christchurch, as described aforesaid, and the western boundary of the East Ward hereinbefore described, and proceeding westerly and northerly along the southern and western boundaries of the said city to the southern boundary of the West Ward, hereinbefore described; thence easterly along that boundary and the southern boundary of the North Ward, hereinbefore described, to the aforesaid western boundary of the East Ward; thence southerly along that boundary to the point of commencement.

I hereby certify that the above Special Order was duly passed by the Christchurch City Council at a meeting held on Monday, 15 November 1976.
