Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961—Electrical Apparatus Which May Constitute an Electrical Hazard
PURSUANT to regulation 8 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961, notice is hereby given that:
(1) The apparatus described below may, in my opinion, constitute an electrical hazard:
Description: Electric motors for industrial-type sewing machines which conflict with the requirements of subclause (2) (c) of regulation 109 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961.
(2) The possible electrical hazard arises from an extra-low voltage circuit tapped from the stator winding of these motors. The purpose of this circuit is to provide supply for a 6 or 12 volt light and comprises either a short lead extending from the motor or a 2 pin plug socket mounted on the motor.
(3) Every person who sells or offers for sale any apparatus which in the opinion of the General Manager of the New Zealand Electricity Department constitutes or may constitute an electrical hazard commits an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding $200.
(4) All persons who have industrial type sewing machines fitted with this type of motor should arrange with the agent for the machine or an electrician to have the lead or the plug socket disconnected or removed.
MACHINES SHOULD NOT BE USED UNTIL THIS MODIFICATION HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT
