Price Order No. 2304 (Californian Oranges)

PURSUANT to the Control of Prices Act 1947, I, Maurice John Belgrave, pursuant to a delegation from the Secretary of Trade and Industry acting under a delegation from the Price Tribunal, hereby make the following price order:

  1. This order may be cited as Price Order No. 2304, and shall come into force on the 10th day of February 1975.

2.(1) Price Order No. 2300 is hereby revoked.

(2) The revocation of the said order shall not affect the liability of any person for any offence in relation thereto committed before the coming into force of this order.

  1. References in this order to metropolitan areas are references to the metropolitan areas described in the Schedule hereto.

APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER

  1. This order applies with respect to all Californian oranges sold by way of retail in the North Island and South Island in New Zealand.

MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF CALIFORNIAN ORANGES SOLD IN THE NORTH ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND

  1. The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for Californian oranges sold in the North Island of New Zealand shall be:

(a) When sold by a retailer carrying on a business in any of the metropolitan areas of Auckland and Wellington, or in any of the Cities of Whangarei, Takapuna, Waitemata, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Napier, Hastings, and the Boroughs of Stratford, Hawera, and Masterton. 30 cents per lb.

(b) When sold by a retailer carrying on business elsewhere in the North Island—

1 lb, 31 cents;

2 lb, 61 cents;

3 lb, 92 cents;

4 lb, $1.22;

5 lb, $1.53;

6 lb, $1.83.

Fractions of a pound shall be calculated at the rate of 31 cents per pound. Quantities in excess of 6 lb shall be calculated at the rate of 30½ cents per pound.

MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF CALIFORNIAN ORANGES SOLD IN THE SOUTH ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND

  1. The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for Californian oranges sold in the South of New Zealand shall be:

(a) When sold by a retailer carrying on business in metropolitan areas of Christchurch or Dunedin, or in the Cities or Boroughs of Blenheim, Greymouth, Timaru, Westport, Oamaru, Balclutha, Gore, or Invercargill— 28 cents per lb.

(b) When sold by a retailer carrying on business elsewhere in the South Island—

1 lb, 29 cents;

2 lb, 57 cents;

3 lb, 86 cents;

4 lb, $1.14;

5 lb, $1.43;

6 lb, $1.71.

Fractions of a pound shall be calculated at the rate of 29 cents per pound. Quantities in excess of 6 lb shall be calculated at the rate of 28½ cents per pound.

  1. If in respect of any lot of oranges sold by a retailer the maximum price calculated in accordance with the provisions of clause 5 and clause 6 of this order is not an exact number of cents, the maximum price of the lot may be rounded to the nearest whole cent.
