Waiau River to a point in line with the middle of the
road forming the north-western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4972,
in Block I, Culverden Survey District; thence south-westerly
to and along the middle of that road and its production to
the southern side of No. 7 State Highway; thence south-easterly
along that roadside to the northern boundary of part Section
26, Culverden Settlement; thence westerly along the northern
boundaries of part Section 26, Sections 27, 28, and 66, and
southerly along the western boundaries of Section 66 and
part Section 29, Culverden Settlement, to the eastern bank
of Black Birch Stream and along a right line across the
Pahau River to the north-eastern corner of Lot 16, D.P.
3551; thence westerly generally along the generally southern
boundary of that lot to Cascade Road; thence north-westerly
along the north-eastern side of that road to the southern
boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 3550; thence north-westerly generally
along the generally south-western boundary of that lot and
its production to the middle of the Dove River: thence south-
westerly down the middle of that river and the Mandamus
River and up the middle of the Hurunui River to the point
of commencement.
Hanmer Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, Amuri County,
containing 159 240 hectares (393,500 acres), more or less,
bounded by a line commencing at the Lewis Pass in Block
VII, Boyle Survey District, and proceeding north-easterly
generally along the summit of the Spenser Mountains to an
unnamed peak in Block II, Humboldt Survey District, bearing
19° distance 4.2 kilometres from Mount Humboldt; thence
south-easterly along a right line through Trig. M.O. in Block
IV, Maling Survey District, to the shore of Lake Tennyson;
then southly generally along the generally western shore
of that lake to and down the middle of the Clarence River
to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Run 279,
“The Hossack” in Block VI, Terako Survey District; thence
south-westerly and westerly generally to and along that bound-
ary and the generally southern boundary of Run 279 to the
left bank of the Hanmer River in Block IV, Lyndon Survey
District; thence north-westerly along a right line bearing
315° to the middle of the Hanmer River: thence westerly
generally along the middle of that river to the confluence
of the Waiau River being a point on the north-eastern
boundary of the Pahau Ward hereinbefore described; thence
north-westerly generally along that boundary to the point
of commencement.
Waiau Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury and Marlborough Land
Districts, Amuri County, containing 66 650 hectares (164,700
acres), more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the
north-western corner of Lot 1, D.P. 21246, in Block X,
Terako Survey District, and proceeding easterly along the
southern boundary of Run 208 “Cloudy Range” to the middle
of the Mason River; thence north-easterly on a bearing of
24° true for a distance of 1.9 kilometres to an unnamed
peak 1240 metres (4070 ft) on the eastern watershed of the
Mason River; thence northerly generally along that water-
shed to the summit of the Amuri Range; thence north-easterly
generally along the summit of that range and the ridge
leading into Palmer Saddle to that saddle; thence southerly
to and down the middle of the Conway River and south-
westerly up the middle of the Gelt River to a point in line
with the south-eastern boundary of Lot 3, D.P. 2884; thence
south-westerly generally to and along that boundary, the
north-western boundary of Lot 2, D.P. 2884, and the south-
eastern and south-western boundaries of Lot 1, D.P. 2884, and
the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle
of the Gelt River; thence north-easterly down the middle
of that river to a point in line with the eastern boundary
of Section 15, Square 80; thence northerly to and along
that boundary and westerly along the northern boundaries
of Sections 15 and 16, Square 80, and the part Section 48,
Square 80, comprised in C.T. 19/39 (Amuri), to the eastern-
most corner of Section 4, Annan Settlement; thence south-
westerly and westerly along the south-eastern and southern
boundaries of that section to the north-western corner of
Lot 1, D.P. 2124; thence south-westerly generally along the
western boundary of that lot and the north-western boundaries
of Lot 4, D.P. 2161, and Lot 1, D.P. 6333, to the southern-
most corner of the last-mentioned lot; thence due west to the
middle of the original Leader-Waiau Road; thence south-
westerly along the middle of that road to a point in line
with the north-eastern boundary of Section 14, Annan Settle-
ment; thence south-easterly to and along that boundary and
its production to the middle of the Waiau River; thence
north-westerly generally up the middle of that river to the
confluence of the Waiau and Hanmer Rivers being a point
on the south-eastern boundary of the Hanmer Ward herein-
before described; thence north-easterly along that boundary
to the point of commencement.
Parnassus Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, Amuri and
Cheviot Counties, containing 41 965 hectares (103,700 acres),
more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the confluence
of the Gelt and Conway Rivers in Block I, Hawkswood
Survey District, and proceeding south-easterly generally down
the middle of the Conway River to the mean high-water
mark of the sea; thence south-westerly along that high-water
mark to the middle of the Waiau River in Block V, Cheviot
Survey District; thence north-westerly generally up the middle
of that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary
of Section 14, Annan Settlement, being a point on the south-
eastern boundary of the Waiau Ward hereinbefore described;
thence north-easterly along that boundary to the point of
commencement.
Cheviot Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, Cheviot and
Amuri Counties, containing 44 675 hectares (110,400 acres),
more or less, bounded by a line commencing on the mean
high-water mark of the sea in the middle of the Waiau
River and proceeding south-westerly along that high-water
mark to the middle of the Hurunui River; thence north-
westerly generally up the middle of that river to a point
due west of the foot of the main spur leading to Lowry
Peaks Range in Block XV, Culverden Survey District; thence
due east to that foot; thence north-easterly generally along
that spur and the summit of the Lowry Peaks Range to the
north-eastern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4351; thence south-
easterly along that boundary to the easternmost corner of
that lot; thence easterly along the northern boundary of
Lot 1, D.P. 4353, and north-easterly along the north-western
boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 4355, to the southern-most corner
of Rural Section 37566; thence northerly along the western
boundary of that section and easterly generally along the
generally northern boundaries of Rural Sections 37566, 37567,
and 37568, to the north-western boundary of Section 7,
Block VII, Lowry Peaks Survey District; thence north-easterly
generally along that boundary the south-western boundary of
Section 10, Block VII, Lowry Peaks Survey District, and the
generally north-western boundaries of the said Section 10,
and Sections 16, 2, and 1, Block VII, Lowry Peaks Survey
District, and Section 1, Block III, Lowry Peaks Survey District,
and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the
middle of the Waiau River being a point on the southern
boundary of the Parnassus Ward hereinbefore described; thence
easterly generally along that boundary to the point of com-
mencement.
Amuri Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, Amuri and
Cheviot Counties, containing 32 290 hectares (79,800 acres),
more or less, bounded by a line commencing at a point
in the middle of the Hurunui River due west of the foot of
the main spur leading to Lowry Peaks Range in Block XV,
Culverden Survey District, and proceeding north-westerly
generally up the middle of the Hurunui River and the Pahau
River to the middle of No. 7 State Highway; thence north-
easterly along the middle of that State highway to a point
in line with the eastern boundary of Section 37, Culverden
Settlement; thence northerly to and along that boundary and
the eastern boundary of Section 1, Culverden Settlement, and
its production to the middle of the Waiau River; thence
easterly generally down the middle of that river to a point
in line with the north-western boundary of Section 1, Block
III, Lowry Peaks Survey District being a point on the western
boundary of the Cheviot Ward hereinbefore described; thence
southerly generally along that ward boundary to the point
of commencement.
Culverden Ward
ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, Amuri County,
containing 34 920 hectares (86,300 acres), more or less,
bounded by a line commencing at the confluence of the
Hurunui and Pahau Rivers and proceeding westerly generally
up the middle of the Hurunui River to the confluence of the
Mandamus River, being a point on the south-eastern boundary
of the Pahau Ward hereinbefore described; thence north-
easterly generally along that boundary to the middle of the
Waiau River; thence easterly along the middle of that river
to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section 1,
Culverden Settlement, being a point on the western boundary
of the Amuri Ward hereinbefore described; thence southerly
generally along that ward boundary to the point of com-
mencement.
