Alterations to the Scale of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways--Amendment
No. 1
GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES
Pursuant to the Government Railways Act 1949, the Minister of Railways hereby makes the
following alterations to the General Scale of Charges, published in the Supplement dated
the 3rd day of December 1973, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 29th day of November 1973,
and hereby declares that such alterations shall come into force on the 18th day of
April 1975.
PASSENGERS
- General
Paragraph 3. Children's fares--After "Children's fares--" Insert (a)
Insert new subparagraph (b):
(b) Pupils attending a primary or secondary boarding school may be issued with tickets, at
the appropriate fares for children 4 years and under 15 years of age, when travelling to and
from boarding school at the beginning and end of each school term, mid-term break, or
recognised public holiday period. A certificate signed by the principal of the school, certifying
that the pupil is travelling for the purpose of attending school at the beginning of the term or
travelling home at the end of the term, must be presented when tickets are purchased.
- Ordinary Tickets
Paragraph 1. Fares--Second class fare for 880 km--omit $11.55 and insert $11.15.
- Reserved Seats
Paragraph 2. Insert new subparagraph (c):
(c) Passengers may not join the Silver Star, Silver Fern, Blue Streak, Endeavour or Souther-
ner services without a berth or seat having been allocated. When accommodation is available,
berth or seat allocations may be obtained up to the time of departure from each stopping
station.
- Miscellaneous Concessions
Paragraph 1. General--omit Subparagraph (a) and insert:
(a) Subject to the conditions set out hereafter, tickets may be issued at the special excur-
sion fares specified in section 20, or as otherwise provided in this section, for travel by all
rail passenger services except the Silver Star, Silver Fern, Blue Streak, Endeavour, or Souther-
ner services. Fares as specified in sections 3, 6, 7, and 11, less 10 percent, may be granted to
approved organisations for travel on these services. Such tickets will have the same avail-
ability (both as to period of time and break of journey) as ordinary tickets (section 2). Tickets
at section 3 fares, less 10 percent, are not available on the Silver Star sleeper train service
during the following periods--
(i) Queen's Birthday and Labour Day.
(ii) Easter weekend, from Thursday to the following Tuesday inclusive.
(iii) Over Christmas and New Year holiday period.
(iv) Other public holidays.
The department reserves the right to decline any application for tickets under the provisions
of this section.
- Free School Season Tickets
Omit paragraph 4 and insert new paragraph:

Certificates in the appropriate form, signed by the teacher and certified by the Education
Department or Education Board must be produced when application is made for tickets under
this section. -
Picnic and School Parties
Paragraph 3. Fares--(a)
In columns headed "children under 15 years" (2 places) insert *(asterisk) and insert
footnote.
*On presentation of a certificate signed by the principal of the school, certifying that pupils
are travelling for special educational or school sporting purposes, tickets may be issued to
primary and secondary school pupils at the fare applicable to children under 15 years of age.

Omit $10.10 and insert $10.00

Subparagraph (iii), first line--Omit section 21 and insert section 28.
LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.
- Checked Luggage
Paragraph 1. Subparagraph, Exceptions--Omit first sentence--"Passengers travelling" etc.,
and insert.
Passengers travelling on the Silver Star sleeper train services or the Silver Fern railcar
services may check their luggage free of charge only between the stations for which Silver Star
or Silver Fern tickets are held. This free checking service will not apply to luggage to or from
overseas vessels.
