(Note—Importers may elect, at their own risk, either—
(i) to import seed without this certificate, in which case it will be held and a sample taken for analysis. Depending on the results of the
analysis, the seed may be released, treated to the satisfaction of the Ministry, reshipped, or destroyed, as necessary; or
(ii) to import seed with a certificate which denotes contamination of the line with a species listed in Schedule C, with a view to
redressing the seed under supervision on arrival. Should the prohibited species fail to be dressed out, then the seed may be
required to be (heat) treated, reshipped or destroyed at importer’s option and expense.)
V-VIII. Other treatment certificates—General wording for treatment certificates V-VIII—“A certificate from the officer in charge of a
fumigation station operated by a government agency, or from an authorised officer of an appropriate government-controlled quarantine
service, certifying that the seed has been .... (insert appropriate wording as specified below):”
(a) Certificate No. V—Temperature Treatments:
VA Heat Treatment Certificate—Heat treated at 90°-95°C at 40 percent R.H. for 15 hours (with sacks well spaced to allow
circulation).
VB Hot Water Treatment Certificate—Hot-water treated at 55°C for 10 minutes, and treated with maneb or organo-mercury.
VC Hot Water Treatment Certificate—Hot-water treated at 37-39°C for 15 minutes, and dressed with an organo-mercury fungicide.
(b) Certificate No. VI—Fumigation:
VIA. Fumigated with either—
(i) Methyl bromide at 48 gm per cubic metre at 21°C for 24 hours at atmospheric pressure in a closed chamber; or
(ii) Methyl bromide at 48 gm per cubic metre for 2 hours at 21°C under a vacuum of 68 cm; or
(iii) Carbon bisulphide at a strength of 160 gm per cubic metre for not less than 24 hours at a minimum temperature of
18.5°C.
VIB. Fumigated with methyl bromide at the rate of 40 gm per cubic metre at 20°C for 20 hours at atmospheric pressure.
(NOTE—It is recommended that the moisture content of the seed is below 12 percent.)
(c) Certificate No. VII—Acid Extraction:
VII. Acid extracted by Hydrochloric acid (or other method approved by the Director-General of Agriculture and Fisheries).
VIIA. Solvent extracted or Expeller produced incorporating a heat application of at least 100°C for 15 minutes.
(d) Certificate No. VIII—Seed Dressings:
VIIIA. Treated with captan or thiram (name and dosage to be stated).
VIIIB. Treated with carboxin or benomyl (name and dosage to be stated).
VIIIC. Treated with maneb or an organo-mercury fungicide dressing (name and dosage to be stated).
IX. Certificate No. IX—Legume Inoculum: A certificate signed by the producer of such inoculum that the medium in which the
bacterium is carried was sterilised by steam under pressure (autoclaved) before inoculation.

PART C
PROHIBITED SEED SPECIES
(Refer to Part B, Certificate No. IV—Analysis)
Many of the seeds prohibited by the Noxious Weeds Act 1950 and its amendments, and the Introduction and Quarantine of Plants
Regulations 1973, are uncommon contaminants of seed lines. No seed lot will be released in New Zealand if it contains any of the
prohibited seed species listed below (see note following form of Analysis certificate)—
