Pursuant to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Naval Forces:
ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY
Captain Samuel Fenwick Mercer, O.B.E., is placed on the Retired List with effect from 21 February 1974.
Captain R. H. L. Hamby, to be acting Commodore with effect from 25 March 1974, and temp. Commodore with effect from 29 March 1974.
Instructor Lieutenant Commander Allister Ian Hughes Peterson, B.A., DIP.ED., A.N.Z.I.M., BIRD., is placed on the Retired List with effect from 1 March 1974.
Lieutenant Commander Bernard Martin Commons is placed on the Retired List with effect from 5 March 1974.
The appointment of Lieutenant Commander Jeffrey Eric Daykin is reduced to 17 March 1974, and he is placed on the Retired List with effect from 30 March 1974.
The appointment of Lieutenant Commander J. T. Herd is extended to 10 August 1979.
Instructor Lieutenant B. R. Bartley, B.SC., to be Instructor Lieutenant Commander with seniority and effect from 4 February 1974.
Lieutenant R. J. Pierson to be temp. Lieutenant Commander with effect from 21 January 1974.
The appointment of Instructor Lieutenant Wallace Keith Grant, B.A., DIP.TECH., is terminated with effect from 11 February 1974.
Lieutenant D. J. Davidson: with reference to the notice published in the Gazette, 29 November 1973, No. 110, p. 2479, for the date “2 June 1991”, substitute “3 June 1991”.
Sub Lieutenant J. R. Louisson, B.A.(HONS.), to be Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 16 March 1974.
Sub Lieutenant D. I. Ledson, B.A., to be temp. Lieutenant with effect from 22 February 1974.
The appointment of Ensign (temp. Sub Lieutenant) Michael John Selby is terminated with effect from 13 February 1974.
Lieutenant Peter Huntly Robinson, M.B., CH.B., is appointed to the RNZN for a period terminating on 4 August 1978, on a Special Medical Engagement, in the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant (on prob.) with effect from 4 February 1974.
John Edward Tustin is appointed to the RNZN (Special Duties List) for a period of 5 years, in the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 17 December 1972 and effect from 1 February 1974.
Arthur Leslie Beaman, T16807 to be Lieutenant (on prob.) (Special Duties List), with seniority and effect from 15 March 1974, on appointment to the RNZN for a period of 12 years.
Richard George Vinsen Cullen, F17652, to be Lieutenant (on prob.) (Special Duties List) with seniority and effect from 15 March 1974, on appointment to the RNZN for a period of 12 years.
Neil Maxwell Dorset, T18394, to be Lieutenant (on prob.) (Special Duties List), with seniority and effect from 15 March 1974, on appointment to the RNZN for a period of 12 years.
WOMEN'S ROYAL N.Z. NAVAL SERVICE
The appointment of 3rd Officer Marama Westford is terminated with effect from 2 March 1974.
The appointment of 3rd Officer S. R. Learmonth is extended to 23 April 1975.
The appointment of 3rd Officer J. M. Simmonds is extended to 23 April 1975.
4th Officer (temp. 3rd Officer) P. R. Wayne, B.SC.(HONS.), to be 3rd Officer with seniority and effect from 19 March 1974, and granted the temp. rank of 3rd Officer with effect from 19 March 1974.
4th Officer J. Leslie to be 3rd Officer with seniority and effect from 19 March 1974.
Lorraine Pauline Baker is appointed to the WRNZNS as Fourth Officer (on prob.) with effect from 11 February 1974.
