At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 1st day of April 1974
Present:

THE HON. H. WATT PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to section 12 of the National Parks Act 1952, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares that the land described in the Schedule hereto shall, as from the date hereof, be set apart as a special area.

SCHEDULE
SOUTHLAND LAND DISTRICT
ALL that area in Fiordland National Park, containing 2160 hectares, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of Sinbad Gully Stream on the south-western shore of Milford Sound, and proceeding northerly generally along the shore to a point 300 metres distant from the point of commencement; thence north-westerly generally along the ridge forming the watershed between Sinbad Gully and Milford Sound, passing through Footstool Mountain, to Mitre Peak; thence westerly and southerly generally along the northern and western watersheds of Sinbad Gully to the mountain, height 1694.6 metres; thence easterly by a right line to the northern-most of the Llawrenny Peaks; thence south-easterly along the southern watershed of Sinbad Gully, passing through Mt Phillips, to the shore of Milford Sound; thence northerly to the point of commencement.

The Lake Taupo Rural Fire District Order 1974

PURSUANT to the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1955, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. (1) This order may be cited as the Lake Taupo Rural Fire District Order 1974.
    (2) This order shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

  2. In this order, unless the context otherwise requires—
    The "Act" means the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1955.
    "District" means the Lake Taupo Rural Fire District.
    PART I—CONSTITUTION OF LAKE TAUPO RURAL FIRE DISTRICT

  3. The area specified in the Schedule to this order is hereby constituted and declared to be a rural fire district to be known as the Lake Taupo Rural Fire District.

  4. The trees and other plants on lands described in the Schedule to this order are hereby specified as the property for the protection of which the district is constituted.

  5. The period between the 1st day of September in any one year and the 30th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive) is hereby declared to be a closed fire season in the district.

  6. The Lake Taupo Rural Fire District shall be administered, for the purposes of the said Act, by the Minister of Forests.

SCHEDULE
SOUTH AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICTS—ROTORUA AND WELLINGTON CONSERVANCIES—TAUPO COUNTY
Lake Taupo Rural Fire District
ALL that area in the South Auckland and Wellington Land Districts, Taupo County, containing 2150 square kilometres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the shore of Lake Taupo and the right bank

of the Tongariro River in Block VI, Puketi Survey District, and proceeding generally north-easterly along the shore of Lake Taupo to its intersection with the southern boundary of the Borough of Taupo, as defined in Gazette, 1969, p. 787; thence generally easterly and northerly along that boundary to its intersection with the southern side of National State Highway No. 5; thence generally easterly along the southern side of that State highway to a point in line with the eastern side of Mountain Road in Block VII, Tauhara Survey District; thence generally northerly to and along the eastern side of that road, the south-eastern and north-eastern boundaries of Tauhara Middle 19 Block, and the eastern and northern boundaries of part Tauhara Middle 1 Block, situated in Block III, Tauhara Survey District, and the last-mentioned boundary produced to the north-western side of Broadlands Road; thence generally north-easterly along that roadside to the easternmost corner of part Section 2, Block III, Tauhara Survey District; thence along a right line parallel to the eastern boundary of part Tauhara North Block to the intersection of that line with the right bank of the Waikato River in Block XI, Tatua Survey District; thence generally easterly along that right bank to its intersection with the right bank of the Paetataramoa Stream in Block IX, Takapau Survey District; thence generally southerly along the right bank of the Paetataramoa Stream to and along the south-western boundary of part Lot 3, D.P. S. 7273, to the western boundary of Run 60 in Block II, Otukotara Survey District; thence northerly and easterly along the western and northern boundaries of Run 60 to the left bank of the Rangitaiki River in Block I, Heruiwi Survey District; thence generally southerly along that left bank to a point in line with the southern boundary of Lot 20, D.P. 23615, in Block VII, Otukotara Survey District; thence south-easterly to and along that boundary to the right bank of the Waipunga River in Block XIV, Heruiwi Survey District; thence generally southerly along that right bank to its intersection with the north-eastern side of National State Highway No. 5 in Block IX, Runanga Survey District; thence generally north-westerly along that north-eastern roadside to its intersection in Block IV, Maruanui Survey District, with a right line between Trigonometrical Station 52, Kokomoka, in Block XIII, Heruiwi Survey District, and Trigonometrical Station 50, Omeruiti, in Block VII, Maruanui Survey District; thence generally westerly along that right line to Trigonometrical Station 50, aforesaid, and along another right line to the northernmost corner of Wharetoto B in Block V, Maruanui Survey District; thence generally south-westerly along the north-western boundaries of Wharetoto B, aforesaid, Patehe Block, and part Kaimanawa 1C, to the eastern boundary of Kaimanawa 1B in Block V, Maruanui Survey District; thence generally southerly along the eastern boundaries of Kaimanawa 1B and part 1A to the left bank of the Oamaru Stream; thence generally south-westerly along that left bank and the south-eastern boundary of Kaimanawa 1A, aforesaid, to the left bank of the Ngaruroro River in Block V, Ahipaepae Survey District; thence generally westerly along that left bank to a point in line with the left bank of the Mangamingi Stream in Block V, Ahipaepae Survey District, to and along that bank, the southern boundaries of Kaimanawa 1F and 2B, the north-western boundary of Kaimanawa 2A, the northern boundary of Kaimanawa 3B2B and its production to the right bank of the Waipakihi River, and along that bank to the right bank of the Waikato River in Block VII, Kaimanawa Survey District; thence generally northerly along the right bank of the Waikato and Tongariro Rivers to the south-eastern boundary of Turangi Township as defined in Gazette, 1968, p. 1029; thence generally northerly and south-westerly along the boundaries of that township (being also the boundaries of Turangi Riding as defined in Gazette, 1968, p. 1783) to the right bank of the Tongariro River; thence generally north-westerly along the right bank of that river to the point of commencement.

Exempting Land in Southland Land District from the Operation of Part III of the Coal Mines Act 1925

PURSUANT to section 171 of the Coal Mines Act 1925, I, Sir Edward Denis Blundell, the Governor-General of New Zealand, do hereby exempt the land described in the Schedule hereto from the operation of Part III of the said Act.
