PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Naval Forces :

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY The appointment of Commander George Brian White Johnson, M.N.Z.I.S., is terminated with effect from 7 April 1973. He is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 8 April 1973. Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) J. A. B. Lewis to be Commander, with seniority from 29 May 1973 and effect from 10 December 1973. Lieutenant Commander G. F. Hopkins, C.ENG., M.I.MECH.E., to be Commander with seniority from 6 April 1973 and effect from 10 December 1973. The appointment of Instructor Lieutenant B. R. Bartley, B.SC., is extended to 11 January 1978. The seniority of Lieutenant R. J. Nelligan, B.E.(MECH.), is ante-dated to 1 November 1970. ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL RESERVE Commander Patrick Herbert Pallin, R.D., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZNR with effect from 16 November 1973.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE Commander Ronald Fletcher Faber, O.B.E., V.R.D., J.P., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZNVR with effect from 1 December 1973. Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Anthony George Slark, M.B., B.S.(LOND.), D.OBST.R.C.O.G., D.P.H., D.I.H. R.C.P.(LOND.) and R.C.S.(ENG.), M.R.C.G.P., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZNVR with effect from 10 December 1973. Lieutenant Commander P. S. Ferguson, A.D.C., to be temp. Flight Lieutenant with effect from 1 August 1973. Officer Cadet A85928 Ross Drysdale is appointed to a short-service commission for a period of 8 years, in the rank of acting Pilot Officer with effect from 14 September 1973, followed by 4 years on the Reserve of Air Force Officers.

Transfer to Reserve Squadron Leader Brian James Grigg, A.N.Z.I.M., is transferred to the Reserve of Air Force Officers until 22 August 1977, with effect from 23 August 1973.
