Bylaw Prohibiting Articulated Vehicles and Towing of Caravans and Trailers and Driving of Animals and Regulating Distances of Heavy Motor Vehicles on the Rangitikei River Bridge on No. 1 State Highway

PURSUANT to the Transport Act 1962, the National Roads Act 1953, and to all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling it, the National Roads Board hereby makes the following bylaw.

B Y L A W

  1. This bylaw may be cited as the National Roads Board Bylaw 1973 No. 1

  2. This bylaw shall come into force on the day after its publication in the Gazette.

  3. This bylaw shall apply to the Rangitikei River Bridge on No. 1 State Highway approximately 1 mile south of the Bulls Township.

  4. No person shall drive or take or operate or permit to be driven or taken or operated any articulated vehicle on or over the above-described bridge.

  5. No person shall take or tow or permit to be taken or towed any caravan or trailer on or over the above-described bridge.

  6. No person shall drive any heavy motor vehicle upon or over that portion of the above-described bridge temporarily reconstructed with bailey bridging components at a distance of less than 30 feet from any other heavy motor vehicle while such other heavy motor vehicle is upon or passing over the said temporarily reconstructed portion of the said bridge.

  7. No person shall drive or cause to be driven or permit any horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, or other animals on or over the above-described bridge unless such horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, or other animals are confined within a motor vehicle.

  8. In this bylaw the expression “articulated vehicle”, “trailer”, “heavy motor vehicle” have the respective meanings assigned to them in the Transport Act 1962.

  9. In this bylaw, “caravan” means a vehicle, without motive power, designed for use as human abode that is capable of being drawn or propelled by a motor vehicle, from which it is readily detachable.

  10. Every person who commits an offence against this bylaw is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding $200.

This bylaw was made by resolution duly passed at a meeting of the National Roads Board held in Hanmer on the 24th day of July 1973.

PURSUANT to section 3 of the Local Authorities Loans Act 1956 (as amended by section 3 (1) of the Local Authorities Loans Amendment Act 1967), the undersigned Assistant Secretary to the Treasury, acting under powers delegated to the Secretary to the Treasury by the Minister of Finance, hereby consents to the borrowing by the local authorities mentioned in the Schedule hereto of the whole or any part of the respective amounts specified in that Schedule.
