Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy

PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy:

Lieutenant Commander Reginald Samuel Hurden, M.B.E., A.M.R.I.N.A., N.Z.I.M., (Rtd.), reverts to the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 9 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander (Acting Commander) E. D. Deane, LL.B., to be Commander, with seniority from 1 August 1972 and effect from 21 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) W. G. Leach to be Commander, with seniority from 1 September 1972 and effect from 21 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) K. J. Lewis to be Commander, with seniority from 1 November 1972 and effect from 21 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) I. L. S. B. Bradley to be Commander, with seniority from 1 December 1972 and effect from 21 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander (temp. Commander) C. G. Ashbridge to be Commander, with seniority from 25 January 1973 and effect from 21 May 1973.

Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Ivor Bradbury is reappointed to the RNZN on the Retired List of Officers, in the rank of Lieutenant Commander, with seniority from 31 December 1967 and effect from 30 April 1973, and employed on the Active List; terminating on 7 January 1979.

Lieutenant Arthur Nelson Lewis (Rtd.), reverts to the Retired List of the RNZN, with effect from 29 May 1973.

The appointment of Lieutenant J. Crownshaw is extended to 31 August 1977.

Lieutenant G. W. Head, B.SC.(ENG.), to be acting Lieutenant Commander with effect from 23 April 1973 and temp. Lieutenant Commander with effect from 27 April 1973.

Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant Commander) T. J. E. Marsh to be Lieutenant Commander with seniority and effect from 17 May 1973.

The appointment of Lieutenant P. T. Murphy is extended to 26 January 1978.

Sub Lieutenant A. J. Peck to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 1 February 1972 and effect from 6 April 1973.

Midshipman I. E. Atkinson to be Ensign, with seniority from 5 January 1973 and effect from 19 April 1973.

WOMEN’S ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL SERVICE

Third Officer Penelope Margaret McGhie is released with effect from 26 April 1973.

Fourth Officer (on prob.) P. R. Wayne, B.SC.(HONS.) to be Fourth Officer, with seniority from 19 March 1973 and effect from 16 April 1973.

Fourth Officer (on prob.) J. Leslie to be Fourth Officer with seniority and effect from 16 April 1973.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE

Sub Lieutenant F. J. Gillon to be Lieutenant, with seniority from 3 August 1972 and effect from 1 January 1973.

The appointment of Ensign Peter Huntly Robinson is terminated with effect from 22 January 1973.

Peter Stuart Hunter, M.B., B.S. (U.DURH.), F.R.C.S.(ENG.), is appointed to the RNZNVR List 1, in the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander, with seniority from 31 December 1968 and effect from 17 January 1973, terminating on 23 November 1979.

EMERGENCY LIST OF THE ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVY

Lieutenant Commander Douglas Edmond Payne, O.B.E.: the notice published in the Gazette, Vol. I, 1970, p. 572, is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant Commander Douglas Edmond Payne, O.B.E., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 1 April 1971.”

Lieutenant Commander George William Bowie, M.H.C.I., F.C.F.A.: the notice published in the Gazette, Vol. II, 1970, p. 1504 is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant Commander George William Bowie, M.H.C.I., F.C.F.A., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 3 July 1970.”

Lieutenant Commander Charles Gordon McLean: the notice published in the Gazette, Vol. III, 1970, p. 1598 is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant Commander Charles Gordon McLean, M.B.E., D.S.M., L.R.A.M., is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 22 October 1970.”

Lieutenant Commander Grant Gilmore Howard: the notice published in the Gazette, Vol. II, 1970, p. 1273 is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant Commander Grant Gilmore Howard is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 18 June 1970.”

Lieutenant Commander Francis Robert Welham: the notice published in the Gazette, 1 June 1972, No. 44, p. 1154 is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant Commander Francis Robert Welham is placed on the Retired List of the RNZN with effect from 31 March 1972.”

The period of service of Lieutenant Walter Burroughs, on the Emergency List of the RNZN, is terminated with effect from 24 April 1973.

The period of service of Chaplain Peter George Hutton, L.TH. (Church of England), on the Emergency List of the Royal New Zealand Navy, is terminated with effect from 17 April 1973.
