PURSUANT to section 149 of the Rating Act 1967, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby exempts the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto from the liability for the payment of rates.

Authorising the Construction of an Extension of the Pakuranga Motorway and the Construction of the Howick-Wiri Motorway in the Auckland Regional District

PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928 and section 3 of the Public Works Amendment Act 1947, His Excellency the Governor-General, at the request of the National Roads Board and acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council, hereby authorises the construction of the motorways described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE
EXTENSION OF THE PAKURANGA MOTORWAY
THIS motorway, a continuation of the Pakuranga Motorway, will start at the existing terminal of the Pakuranga Motorway at the south end of Gossamer Drive in Manukau City and proceed in an easterly direction across Pakuranga Creek to terminate at its interchange with the Howick-Wiri Motorway south of Botany Road and west of East Tamaki Road.
HOWICK-WIRI MOTORWAY
This motorway will start in Manukau City at the Howick to Manurewa Road approximately half-a-mile south of the intersection with Union Street and proceed in a southerly direction west of and approximately parallel to East Tamaki Road as far as the junction of East Tamaki Road with Chapel Road, and then proceed further in a southerly direction west of and approximately parallel to Chapel Road and Matthews Road to terminate at the interchange with the Auckland to Hamilton Motorway in the vicinity of Redoubt Road.

Officer of Government of Ross Dependency Appointed

WHEREAS, by the Order in Council dated the 30th day of July 1923, made under the British Settlements Act 1887 of the United Kingdom Parliament, the Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand for the time being (therein and hereinafter called the Governor) was appointed to be the Governor of the Ross Dependency, and all the powers and authorities which by the said order were given and granted to the Governor for the time being of the Dependency were thereby vested in him;
And whereas the Governor was thereby further authorised and empowered to make all such rules and regulations as might lawfully be made by Her Majesty’s authority for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency;
And whereas, by regulations made by the Governor on the 14th day of November 1923†, it was enacted that all persons appointed by the Governor for the time being of the Dependency should have such power and authority as might be granted them in due course of law, and might be empowered to do such things as might be necessary or desirable to ensure that the laws in force in the Dependency are duly observed and complied with in every respect, and to do all things necessary or expedient for the peace, order, and good government of the Dependency, and to safeguard and preserve Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty over and in respect of the Dependency;
And whereas it is expedient that the person hereinafter named be appointed an officer of the Government of the Dependency:
Now, therefore, I, Sir Edward Denis Blundell, the Governor-General of New Zealand, and as such the Governor of the Ross Dependency, hereby appoint
Reginald Neville Copeland, Esq.
as an officer of the Government of the Dependency; and I hereby confer on him all the powers and authorities which may be exercised in New Zealand by a Postmaster.
The said Reginald Neville Copeland to exercise his functions at such places within the Dependency as may be directed by the officer for the time being appointed as an officer of the Government of the Dependency in whom is vested the general executive and administrative authority in preserving Her Majesty’s rights and sovereignty and the laws and regulations in force in the Dependency; and to hold office and exercise the duties thereof during pleasure.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, as the Governor of the Ross Dependency, this 26th day of January 1973.

PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Appointments
Group Captain M. S. Gunton, O.B.E., A.F.C., to be Acting Air Commodore with effect from 17 January 1973, and temporary Air Commodore with effect from 19 January 1973, on assuming the appointment of Air Officer Commanding, RNZAF Support Group.
Flight Lieutenant R. E. Henstock to be temporary Squadron Leader with effect from 29 January 1973.
Flight Lieutenant G. R. Lloyd is appointed to a permanent commission with effect from 5 December 1972.
Promotions
Wing Commander I. M. Gillard, A.F.C., to be Acting Group Captain with effect from 7 February 1973, and Group Captain with seniority and effect from 10 February 1973.
Squadron Leader P. J. McKay, A.N.Z.I.M., to be Wing Commander, with seniority from 19 January 1972 and effect from 10 January 1973.
