Appointments, Promotions, Extensions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy

PURSUANT to section 35 of the Defence Act 1971, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, extensions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the Royal New Zealand Navy:

Captain Frederick Hardman, O.B.E., is placed on the Retired List with effect from 18 August 1972.

Commander D. H. O'Donoghue to be acting Captain with effect from 14 August 1972 and Captain with seniority and effect from 18 August 1972.

Commander R. N. M. Lea, C.ENG., M.I.MECH.E., M.I.MAR.E., to be acting Captain with effect from 17 July 1972, and temp. Captain with effect from 18 August 1972.

Surgeon Commander (temp. Surgeon Captain) J. D. Read, M.B., CH.B., relinquishes the temp. rank of Surgeon Captain with effect from 14 May 1972.

Surgeon Commander John Denis Read, M.B., CH.B., is placed on the Retired List in the rank of Surgeon Captain with effect from 16 August 1972.

Sub Lieutenant P. M. McHaffie to be temp. Lieutenant with effect from 16 July 1972, and Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 19 July 1972.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL RESERVE

The appointment of Lieutenant Commander J. L. Harrison R.D., is extended to 16 July 1977.

ROYAL NEW ZEALAND NAVAL VOLUNTEER RESERVE

The appointment of Lieutenant Commander G. L. Shaw V.R.D., is extended to 10 August 1973.

Lieutenant C. R. Solomon is transferred to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. Emergency List with effect from 15 January 1972.

The appointment of Lieutenant Bryan Edwin Allpress is terminated with effect from 24 April 1972.

Surgeon Lieutenant (D) G. L. Smith, V.R.D., B.D.S., to be Surgeon Lieutenant Commander (D) with seniority and effect from 13 July 1972.

Ensign D. G. Jensen, LL.B., to be Sub Lieutenant with seniority and effect from 1 March 1972.

William Ernest Gilray, NZ V 826718, CPO(M)E, to be Sub Lieutenant (E) with seniority and effect from 23 June 1972 and is appointed to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. List 1 until 9 December 1983.

Michael Lovell to be Ensign with seniority and effect from 23 June 1972 and is appointed to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. List 1 until 12 May 1989.

Ross Alexander Smith to be Ensign with seniority and effect from 23 June 1972 and is appointed to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. List 1 until 10 January 1995.

Deryck William Charters, M.B., CH.B., DIP.OBST., NZ V 102575, to be Surgeon Ensign with seniority and effect from 23 June 1972 and is appointed to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. List 1 until 21 February 1987.

Peter Douglas Bean to be Chaplain (on prob.) with seniority from 26 May 1968 and effect from 12 June 1972 and is appointed to the R.N.Z.N.V.R. List 1.
