Defining Limits of Queen Charlotte Sound and Pelorus Sound Pilotage Districts

ARTHUR PORRITT, Governor-General

PURSUANT to section 211 of the Harbours Act 1950, I, Sir Arthur Espie Porritt, Baronet, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby define the limits of the Queen Charlotte Sound Pilotage District, within which pilots may act for the purposes of the said Act, to be all the waters comprised within Queen Charlotte Sound and Tory Channel having as their outward seaward limits a straight line drawn in a 303° direction from high-water mark at Paparoa Point on Arapawa Island, to high-water mark on the opposite shore of the mainland, and a straight line drawn in a 070° direction from high-water mark on West Head to high-water mark on East Head of Tory Channel; and hereby define the limits of the Pelorus Sound Pilotage District, within which pilots may act for the purposes of the said Act, to be all the waters comprised within Pelorus Sound having as their outward seaward limit a straight line drawn in a 121° direction from high-water mark at Paparoa (east of Harding Point) to high-water mark at Alligator Head.

The notice of 8 September 1958* defining the Queen Charlotte Sound Pilotage District is hereby consequentially revoked.

Appointing a Member of the Remuneration Authority

PURSUANT to regulations 3 and 4 of the Stabilisation of Remuneration Regulations 1972, an extraordinary vacancy having arisen, His Excellency the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister of Labour hereby appoints

Charles Archibald McFarlane, C.B.E., of Wellington

as member of the Remuneration Authority as and from the 30th day of June 1972 to fill the extraordinary vacancy created by the resignation of Cecil Henry Benney, I.S.O., of Wellington.

Discontinuing at Certain Places Sittings of Magistrates’ Courts in their Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction and in their Jurisdiction Under the Imprisonment for Debt Limitation Act 1908

WHEREAS by an instrument dated the 15th day of December 1948, published in the Gazette on the 16th day of the same month at pp. 1541 and 1542, the boroughs of Opunake, Otorohanga, and Reefton were appointed together with certain cities, boroughs, and other places as places in which Magistrates’ Courts might be held for the exercise of civil and criminal jurisdiction:

And whereas by an instrument dated the 18th day of January 1950, published in the Gazette on the 26th day of the same month at p. 55, the Magistrate’s Court at Opunake along with certain other places was authorised to deal with matters arising under the Imprisonment for Debt Limitation Act 1908, or under any rules made as respects Magistrates’ Courts pursuant to section 2 of that Act:

And whereas by an instrument dated the 26th day of February 1953, published in the Gazette on the 12th day of March 1953 at p. 442, the appointment to exercise civil jurisdiction in the Magistrate’s Court at Opunake along with other boroughs and places was revoked:

And whereas by an instrument dated the 8th day of July 1968, published in the Gazette on the 18th day of the same month at p. 1197, the appointment to exercise civil jurisdiction in the Magistrate’s Court at Otorohanga along with the Magistrate’s Court at Cambridge was revoked:

And whereas by an instrument dated the 8th day of July 1968, published in the Gazette on the 18th day of the same month at p. 1197, the Magistrate’s Court at Otorohanga along with the Magistrate’s Court at Cambridge was authorised to deal with matters arising under the Imprisonment for Debt Limitation Act 1908, or under any rules made as respects Magistrates’ Courts pursuant to section 2 of that Act:

And whereas it is expedient to revoke the appointments and authorisations in respect of the Magistrates’ Courts at Opunake, Otorohanga, and Reefton:

Now therefore, I, Sir Arthur Espie Porritt, Baronet, Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, acting pursuant to subsection (5) of section 4 of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1947, do hereby revoke the appointments and authorisations in respect of the Magistrates’ Courts at Opunake, Otorohanga, and Reefton, and I do declare that this revocation shall take effect on and after 1 July 1972.
