Thirdly, all that area in the Southland Land District, containing 8 acres and 1 rood, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the southern boundary of Section 6, Block II, Invercargill Hundred, 250 links distant from the middle line of Racecourse Road, and proceeding northerly along a right line parallel to, and 250 links distant from, that middle line of Racecourse Road, to its intersection with the Invercargill City boundary, as described in New Zealand Gazette, 1970, page 1821; thence generally south-easterly along that boundary to the point of commencement.

ORDER IN COUNCIL

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 27th day of March 1972

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. J. R. MARSHALL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to the Local Government Commission Act 1967, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. This order shall come into force on the 1st day of April 1972.

  2. The districts of the Borough of Taumarunui and of the Town District of Manunui are hereby united to form one borough to be known as the Borough of Taumarunui (hereinafter called the โ€œsaid boroughโ€).

  3. The Council of the Town District of Manunui is hereby dissolved.

  4. Subject to the provisions of this order, the Council of the said borough shall consist of 9 Councillors, exclusive of the Mayor.

  5. The first election of members of the Council of the said borough shall be held on the date prescribed by law for the next triennial general elections of members of borough councils.

  6. Until the members of the Council of the said borough to be elected at the said first election shall come into office, the Council of the said borough shall consist of 9 Councillors exclusive of the Mayor, being:

(a) The 7 Councillors of the Council of Taumarunui Borough in office on the 31st day of March 1972; and

(b) Two Councillors of the Council of Manunui Town District in office on the 31st day of March 1972 to be chosen by that Council and, for the purpose of making that choice but for no other purpose, the Council shall, if necessary, continue in office after the 31st day of March 1972.

  1. Until the Mayor to be elected at the said first election shall come into office, the Mayor of the said borough shall be the Mayor of the Borough of Taumarunui who was in office on the 31st day of March 1972.

  2. For the purposes of the said first election only, the provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954 shall apply as if the said borough were divided into 2 wards with boundaries as follows:

(a) The boundaries of the former Borough of Taumarunui as they existed at the 31st day of March 1972;
