Alteration to the Scale of Charges upon the New Zealand Government Railways—
Amendment No. 6
GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES
PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act 1949, the Minister of Railways hereby makes the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges, published in the Supplement dated the 13th day of September 1971 to the New Zealand Gazette of the 9th day of September 1971 and hereby declares that such alterations shall come into force on the 18th day of December 1972.
PASSENGERS
- Family Excursion Tickets
Paragraph 1—Insert new subparagraph (d):
(d) Family tickets for return travel at five times the special fares for Blue Streak (section 28B) may be issued to parents and their children travelling together by the Blue Streak.
- Miscellaneous Concession Fares
Paragraph 1: General—Omit subparagraph (a) and insert new subparagraph (a):
(a) Subject to the conditions specified hereafter, tickets may be issued at the special excursion fares specified in section 6, or as otherwise provided in this section. Fares issued under the provisions of section 6 will not be available for travel on Southener express services on the South Island main trunk route, Endeavour express services between Wellington and Napier, or on Blue Streak railcar services between Wellington and New Plymouth. Fares as specified in sections 27, 28A, or 28B less 10 percent will be granted to approved organisations for travel on these services. Such tickets will have the same availability (both as to period of time and break of journey) as ordinary tickets (section 2). The department reserves the right to decline any application for tickets under the provisions of this section.
- Railway Employees’ Privilege Tickets
Omit paragraph 1 and insert new paragraph 1:
- Privilege Single or Return Journey Tickets—Privilege tickets at one-fourth the ordinary fares (section 2), fares as specified in sections 27, 28A, or 28B, or local fares (section 32), where applicable, may be issued to railway employees and their wives and children in terms of the regulations made pursuant to the Government Railways Act 1949 and orders of the Government Railways Industrial Tribunal. Children 4 years of age and over will be charged the adult privilege fare.
For the purpose of this section an ordinary return fare will be deemed to be the value of two single fares (section 2).
- Bulk Travel Vouchers
Omit paragraph 3 and insert new paragraph 3:
- Bulk travel vouchers will be available for the purchase of rail tickets issued under the following sections only—2, 25, 26, 27, 28, 28A, 28B, and 29.
Bulk travel vouchers will not be available on railway or road services suburban routes, sightseeing trips, special tours, or for motor vehicle transport or day excursion trips on the Cook Strait rail ferries.

28B. Special Fares for Blue Streak Services
- Fares—The following fares will be charged for travel by Nos. 610 and 507 Blue Streak railcar services, between Wellington and New Plymouth and intermediate stations:

Return Journeys—The fare for a return journey will be double the single journey fare.

Availability and Break of Journey—Tickets at the foregoing special fares will have the same availability (both as to period of time and break of journey) as ordinary tickets (section 2).

Children under 4 years of age in the charge of a responsible person travel free; 4 years of age and under 15 years of age half the above fares computed to next 5c.

Restrictions on Travel by Specified Trains
Paragraph 2: Omit subparagraph (b) and insert new subparagraph (b):
(b) Tickets issued under the provisions of the following sections are not available for travel by No. 333 and No. 666 special express railcar services between Wellington and Auckland, for which special fares are provided in section 28, paragraph 1:
Sections 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28A, 28B, 29, and 32.
