Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 201—Public Inquiry into Import Duties and Import Licensing Affecting Certain Resins and Plastic Materials, etc.

Following receipt by the Minister of Customs of a report from the Emergency Protection Authority the Government has accepted the recommendation of the Authority that ground polyethylene powder and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds Ex Tariff items 39.02.01, 39.02.02, 39.02.03, and 39.02.04, as set out in the First Schedule to this notice, should remain subject to import licensing pending inquiry and report by the Tariff and Development Board.

In accordance with the provisions of the Tariff and Development Board Act, the Minister of Customs requested the Board to inquire into and report what form of permanent protection, if any, is necessary in respect of these goods.

In a further reference the Minister of Customs has also requested that the Board inquire into and report on the nature and degree of protection, if any, which the Board considers appropriate in respect of goods classified within the Tariff items described in the Second Schedule to this notice.

As the wider reference referred to in paragraph 3 also covers the goods which were the subject of the reference referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2, the Board proposes to deal with both references simultaneously and will, in accordance with its normal procedures conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Monday, 31 May 1971, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should lodge 12 copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public inquiry, at the Board’s office no later than Friday, 14 May 1971. In preparing the evidence the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.
