Now, therefore, I, Sir Arthur Espie Porritt, Baronet, the Governor-General of New Zealand, and as such the Governor of the Ross Dependency, hereby appoint Major James Richard Millton Barker, M.B.E. as an officer of the Government of the Dependency; and I hereby confer on him all the powers and authorities which may be exercised in New Zealand by a Justice of the Peace, and also the powers and authorities which may be so exercised by a Coroner.
And I also appoint Allan George Burgess, Esq. as an officer of the Government of the Dependency; and I hereby confer on him all the powers and authorities which may be exercised in New Zealand by a Postmaster.
The said Major James Richard Millton Barker and Allan George Burgess to exercise their functions at such places within the Dependency as may be directed by the officer for the time being appointed as an officer of the Government of the Dependency in whom is vested the general executive and administrative authority in preserving Her Majesty's rights and sovereignty and the laws and regulations in force in the Dependency; and to hold office and exercise the duties thereof during pleasure.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor-General, as the Governor of the Ross Dependency, this 7th day of October 1971.

Appointing a Member of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority

PURSUANT to section 4 of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Act 1950, I, Sir Arthur Espie Porritt, Baronet, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby appoint William Burns Souter, of Browns Bay, Auckland, to be a member of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Authority for a term of 5 years from the 27th day of September 1971.

Lieutenant (temp. Lieutenant Commander) K. W. Hinks relinquishes the temp. rank of Lieutenant Commander with effect from 2 August 1971.
Lieutenant L. H. Hall: the notice published in the Gazette, 17 June 1971, No. 46, page 1145, is cancelled and the following substituted :
“Lieutenant L. H. Hall is transferred to the Emergency List for a period of 5 years with effect from 22 April 1971.”
