Alteration to the Scale of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways
GENERAL SCALE OF CHARGES
PURSUANT to the Government Railways Act 1949, the Minister of Railways hereby makes
the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges made on the 23rd day of March
1967, and published in the Supplement dated 17th day of April 1967 to the New Zealand
Gazette of the 13th day of April 1967, and additions and alterations thereto as published
in the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th day of September 1968, and in the New Zealand
Gazette of the 15th day of October 1970, and in the New Zealand Gazette of the 9th day of
November 1970, and in the New Zealand Gazette of the 28th day of May 1971, and to the
Local Rates Scale of Charges made on the 22nd day of March 1967, and published in the
Supplement dated 10th day of April 1967 to the New Zealand Gazette of the 6th day of April
1967 in force on the New Zealand Government Railways, and hereby declares that such
alterations shall come into force on 5 September 1971.

- Bulk Travel Vouchers
Paragraph 2—Conditions: Insert new subparagraph (d):
(d) Where bulk travel vouchers are presented for travel on the Southerner express
service, No. 333 and No. 666 special express railcar services on the North Island Main Trunk
route, and the North Island sleeper train service Silver Star, the mileages to be deducted are
to be calculated as set out in sections 27, 28, and 28A respectively.
Paragraph 3—Children: Omit this paragraph and insert—

Children—Except as provided for in section 28A, half mileage will be deducted on bulk
travel vouchers for tickets issued for children 4 years of age and under 15 years of age. -

- Sleeping Berths
Paragraph 1—General: Omit this paragraph and substitute—
- General—Sleeping berth tickets will be issued only to passengers travelling by the ordinary
night express trains between Auckland and Wellington. Passengers travelling by the Silver
Star sleeper train service will be charged under the provisions of section 28A. Except as
provided hereafter not more than one person will be allowed to occupy any one berth. In no
case will more than two children be permitted to occupy the same berth.
28A. Special Fares For North Island Sleeper Train
- Fares:—The following special fares will be charged for travel on Nos. 229 and 688
Silver Star on the North Island Main Trunk route:

Return Journeys:—The fare for a return journey will be double the single journey fare.

(a) Child fares will be charged children of 4 years of age and under 15 years of age.
Children under 4 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
(b) The following charges will apply when berths are occupied as shown—
Parent or guardian occupying one berth with a child under 4
years of age ... ... ... ... ... One adult fare.
A child under 4 years of age occupying one berth (sole occupant) One child fare.
Two children, one under 4 years of age, and one 15 years of age
or over (in one berth) One adult fare.
Two children, each over 4 years and under 15 years of age (in
one berth) One adult fare.
Two children, one under 4 years, and one under 15 years of age
(in one berth) One child fare.
Two children, each under 4 years of age (in one berth) One child fare.
One adult requiring exclusive use of a twinette cabin ... Two adult fares.
Except as provided above, not more than one person will be permitted to occupy any one
berth. In no case will more than two children be permitted to occupy the same berth.
