Boundaries of Borough of Whakatane, Borough of Murupara, Borough of Kawerau, County of Whakatane, and the Urewera, Taneatua, Galatea, and Matata Ridings of Whakatane County Defined
Pursuant to section 26 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the Borough of Whakatane, Borough of Murupara, Borough of Kawerau, County of Whakatane, and the Urewera, Taneatua, Galatea, and Matata Ridings of Whakatane County; the boundaries having previously been altered by Order in Council made on 28 February 1966, published in Gazette, 10 March 1966, No. 13, p. 333; on 26 June 1963, published in Gazette, 27 June 1963, No. 38, p. 872; on 31 March 1964, published in Gazette, 9 April 1964, No. 21, p. 592; on 13 October 1969, published in Gazette, 16 October 1969, No. 62, p. 2000; on 17 November 1964, published in Gazette, 19 November 1964, No. 73, p. 2182; on 27 February 1967, published in Gazette, 2 March 1967, No. 13, p. 304; and on 19 October 1967, published in Gazette, 19 October 1967, No. 66, p. 1821.

BOUNDARIES OF BOROUGH OF WHAKATANE
ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District containing 2,775 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the western side of No. 2 State Highway and the northern boundary of Allotment 23, Waimana Parish, in Block II, Whakatane Survey District, and proceeding westerly along that northern boundary and its production to the middle of the Whakatane River; thence north-westerly generally down the middle of that river to its intersection with a right line between the easternmost corner of Lot 2, D.P. 13465, and the north-western corner of Lot 1, D.P. 18662; thence south-easterly along that right line to the line of mean high-water of the right bank of the Whakatane River; thence northerly generally along that bank of the river to a point on the northern boundary of part Section 9, Block II, Whakatane Survey District, 43.33 links westerly from the north-eastern corner of that section; thence easterly generally along right lines on the following approximate bearings and distances: 3° 25' for 155 ft, 108° 45' for 1,515 ft to the northern point of Bath Rock; thence 93° 5' for 850 ft, to the north-western corner of the old wharf, and along the said wharf to its north-eastern corner; thence 84° 0' for 110 ft, 75° 0' for 315 ft, and 86° 30' for 570 ft to the north-western corner of the new wharf, and along the said new wharf to its north-eastern corner; thence 79° 45' for 460 ft to the rock training wall; thence along that training wall 66° 45' for 180 ft, 59° 45' for 195 ft, 53° 0' for 135 ft, 46° 50' for 275 ft, and 37° 0' for 180 ft to Irakewa Island; thence along the north-western shore of that island to its northernmost point; thence 36° 45' for 590 ft along the aforesaid rock training wall to Flat Rock, and along the north-western face of Flat Rock to its northernmost point; thence again along the rock training wall 39° 45' for 230 ft, 31° 31' for 150 ft, and 24° 0' for 215 ft to Heads Rock, and along the western side of Heads Rock 358° 0' for 60 ft, 20° 30' for 500 ft, and 92° 0' for 340 ft to the westernmost corner of Section 13, Block II, aforesaid; thence along the north-western and north-eastern boundaries of that section to the western side of Bay View Road; thence along a right line to and along the north-eastern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 20477, to and south-westerly along the south-eastern boundaries of Lots 1 to 16, D.P. 20477, to and north-westerly along the south-western boundary of the last-mentioned lot to the south-eastern boundary of Allotment 273, Waimana Parish, as shown on S.O. Plan 34148; thence south-westerly and north-westerly along the south-eastern and south-western boundaries of that allotment to the south-eastern side of Bay View Road; thence south-westerly along that roadside to the south-western boundary of part Lot 1, D.P. 25400; thence south-easterly along that boundary to and south-westerly along the north-western boundaries of Allotments 537, 538, and part 245, Waimana Parish, to a point 200 links north-east from the right bank of the Wairere Stream; thence south-easterly and south-westerly along a series of right lines bearing 153° 0', distance 1,050 links, 126° 30', 3,250 links, 219° 0', 2,450 links, and 252° 1' to the easternmost corner of Lot 74, D.P. S. 10444; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundaries of Lots 74, 73, and 72, D.P. ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing in the middle of the Te Teko - Murupara Road in Block XIII, Galatea Survey District, at a point in line with the northern boundary of Karatia 3B 2A 2B 1 and proceeding to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of the Rangitaiki River; thence southerly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Lot 1, D.P. S. 7081; thence southerly to and along that boundary and its production to and along the middle of a public road to a point 11 chains north-westerly from a point in the middle of that road, in line with the southern boundary of Whirinaki 1, Section 2E 2; thence along a right line to the westernmost corner of part Whirinaki 1, Section 2K; thence along the north-western boundary of part 2K, aforesaid, to the north-eastern boundary of that block; thence along that boundary, along a right line to and again along the north-eastern boundary of part 2K, aforesaid, to and south-easterly generally along the generally south-western boundaries of part Whirinaki 1, Section 2H 2, to the western boundary of Whirinaki 1, Section 2B; thence southerly along that boundary to a point in line with the southern boundary of part Whirinaki 1, Section 2; thence to and along that boundary and the southern boundaries of parts Whirinaki 1, Section 2F and Section 2F 2 and the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of No. 38 State Highway; thence north-westerly along the middle of that highway to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Section 53, Block XIII, Galatea Survey District; thence to and along that boundary to a point 895.46 links distant from the south-western side of No. 38 State Highway; thence north-westerly along a series of right lines parallel to and 895.46 links distant from that south-western side, as shown on S.O. Plan 15554, to the north-eastern corner of Section 34, Block XIII, aforesaid; thence along the eastern boundary of that section and its production to the right bank of the Rangitaiki River; thence along right lines bearing 241° 30', distance 1,300 links, 277° 45', 600 links, 315° 0', 1,640 links, 30° 0', 600 links, 15° 30', 960 links, 28° 15', 960 links, 53° 15', 360 links, and 25° 0' to the north-eastern corner of Section 3, Block XVI, Kaingaroa Survey District; thence along right lines bearing 25° 0' and distance 60.4 links and bearing 339° 8' to and north-westerly along the middle of No. 38 State Highway to a point in line with the middle of the Te Teko - Murupara Road; thence to and along the middle of that road to the point of commencement.

ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District containing 2,280 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing in Block XVI, Rotoma Survey District, on the left (north) bank of the Tarawera River, as shown on S.O. Plan 44040, at the easternmost corner of part Kawerau B. Block and proceeding along a right line to the south-western corner of Allotment 498, Matata Parish; thence along the generally western boundaries of Allotments 498 and 499, Matata Parish, to a peg bearing 236° 40', distant 20.8 links from I.S. XV (S.O. Plan 44228); thence along a series of right lines bearing 294° 51', distance 986.4 links, 317° 27' 40", 2,469.4 links, 323° 50', 1,408.8 links, 1° 9' 20", 3,606.4 links, and 54° 46' 10" to the left (eastern) bank of the Ruruanga Stream; thence northerly generally along that bank to a point bearing 256° from a peg on the north-eastern side of the Rotorua-Kawerau Road, bearing 334° 14' 40", distant 128.1 links from peg VI B. on S.O. Plan 37842; thence along a right line to that point; thence south-easterly along that roadside to a point bearing 333° 31', distant 123.0 links from I.S. VIII on S.O. Plan 37842; thence north-easterly along a right line to old peg V on M.L. Plan 14554; thence easterly along the southern boundary of part Allotment 39A 2B, Matata Parish, and its production to the right bank of the Tarawera River, as shown on D.P. S. 2476; thence north-easterly generally along that bank to a point in line with the southern boundary of Section 12A 1C, Block IX, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District; thence to and along that boundary, the southern boundaries of a portion of closed road and Section 123, Block IX, aforesaid, and the last-mentioned boundary produced to a point in line with the western boundary of part Allotment 59B 2D 3, Matata Parish; thence to and along that boundary to a right line
190° 0', 359.2 links, 217° 44', 100.0 links, and 275° 35' to a line parallel to and 500 links east of the eastern side of No. 2 State Highway; thence southerly generally along a series of right lines parallel to that highway to the north-eastern boundary of Lot 3, D.P. S. 805; thence south-easterly and south-westerly along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of that lot to the eastern side of No. 2 State Highway; thence generally westerly along a right line to the point of commencement.
