Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 186—Inquiry into Marking Pens and Like Appliances Incorporating Felt Wick or Similar Type Applicators Ex Tariff Item 98.03.01 and Parts and Fittings Thereof Ex Tariff Items 98.03.19 and 98.04.01

Following receipt by the Minister of Customs of a report from the Emergency Protection Authority, the Government has accepted the recommendation of the Authority that parts of marking pens and similar appliances should not be exempted from import licensing until such time as the extent of protection, if any, necessary in regard to complete marking pens and similar appliances, as well as any component parts and fittings, has been examined by the Tariff and Development Board.

In accordance with the provisions of the Tariff and Development Board Act, the Minister of Customs has requested the Board to inquire into and report what form of permanent protection, if any, is necessary in respect of those goods classified within the Tariff items set out in the Schedule to this notice.

The Board will, in accordance with its normal procedures, conduct a public inquiry in the Boardroom, First Floor, Law Society Building, 26 Waring Taylor Street, Wellington, on Thursday, 4 February 1971, commencing at 10.30 a.m.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should lodge 12 copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence, to be presented under oath at the public inquiry, with the under-named no later than Tuesday, 19 January 1971. In preparing this evidence the “Notes for Guidance of Witnesses” prepared by the Board may be of assistance. Copies of these notes may be obtained from the Board’s office.

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 188—Public Inquiry into Import Duties and Import Licensing Affecting Fittings for Loose-leaf Binders, for Files or for Stationery Books, of Base Metal; Letter Clips, Paper Clips, Indexing Tags, and Similar Stationery Goods, of Base Metal (Tariff Item 83.05.09)
- Government has accepted the recommendation of the Emergency Protection Authority that, pending inquiry and report by the Tariff and Development Board, import licensing be retained on letter clips and on paper clips of wire up to a maximum thickness of 18 s.w.g. (both ex T.I. 83.05.09). In referring this matter to the Board the Minister of Customs has requested that the scope of the inquiry be widened to include all the goods of T.I. 83.05.09. Accordingly the Board will “inquire into and report on what form of permanent protection, if any, is necessary in respect of all goods classified in Tariff item 83.05.09”. This inquiry will therefore cover all the goods of Tariff heading 83.05 except staples. The goods are provided for in the Tariff as under:
