Consenting to Raising of Loans by Certain Local Authorities

PURSUANT to section 3 of the Local Authorities Loans Act 1956
(as amended by section 3 (1) of the Local Authorities Loans
Amendment Act 1967), the undersigned Assistant Secretary to
the Treasury, acting under powers delegated to the Secretary
to the Treasury by the Minister of Finance, hereby consents to
the borrowing by the local authorities mentioned in the
Schedule hereto of the whole or any part of the respective
amounts specified in that Schedule.

Amendments to the Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand

PURSUANT to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1965 the
Fellows of the Royal Society of New Zealand, at the annual
general meeting held on 20 May 1970, passed resolutions
amending the rules of the Society published in the Gazette on
22 December 1965, 29 June 1967, and 13 June 1968: the effect
of such resolutions being:

SECTION J II—HECTOR MEMORIAL RESEARCH FUND
Rule 6 was amended to read:

The medal and prize shall be awarded in rotation for the
following subjects, namely: (a) plant sciences; (b) chemical
sciences; (c) human sciences; (d) solid earth sciences; (e)
physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences; (f) animal
sciences.

SECTION J III—HAMILTON MEMORIAL FUND
Rules J III 3–10 were amended to read:

Rule 3
The memorial shall be a bronze medal and prize to be called
"The Hamilton Memorial Medal and Prize", the object of
which shall be the encouragement of beginners in scientific
research in New Zealand.

Rule 4
It shall be a first charge upon the fund to procure each
year a bronze medal to be known as "The Hamilton Memorial
Medal".

Rule 5
The fund, or such part thereof as shall not be used as
aforesaid, shall be invested in such securities as may be
approved by the Council, and the interest arising from
such investment, after the payment of all expenses legally
incurred by the Council in the investment and administration

of the said fund, shall be used for the furtherance of the
objects of the fund by providing thereout a prize for the
encouragement of such scientific research in New Zealand of
such amount as the Council shall from time to time determine.
The Council may supplement the money available for the
prize with money derived from other sources.

Rule 6
The medal and prize shall be awarded annually by the
Council but in no case shall an award be made unless, in the
opinion of the Council, there is evidence of scientific work of
great merit.

Rule 7
The medal and prize shall be awarded for scientific research
carried out in New Zealand or in the islands of the South
Pacific Ocean which has been published within 5 years preceding
the last day of January prior to the Council meeting at
which the award is made. Such publication may consist of
one or more papers, and shall include the first investigation
published by the author. No candidate shall be eligible for the
medal and prize who prior to such period of 5 years has
published the results of any scientific investigation in a
recognised scientific journal. A notice or advertisement of the
award shall be distributed to Fellows and member bodies and
other appropriate organisations in October of each year.

Rule 8
At the first meeting after the annual general meeting the
Council shall appoint a Hamilton Award Committee to recommend
the award for the coming year; the committee shall
consider candidates for the medal and prize in the following
categories:

(a) Candidates for the medal and prize who send to the
General Secretary, on or before December 31 preceding
the Council meeting at which an award is to be
considered, an intimation of his or her candidature,
together with at least two copies of each publication
on which the application is based.

(b) Candidates nominated by Fellows or members of the
Society who shall send such nominations to the
General Secretary on or before 31 December
preceding the Council meeting at which an award is
to be considered, and shall send at least two copies
of each publication on which the nomination is
based.

(c) Candidates nominated and recommended by the
Hamilton Award Committee, even if they have not
applied under rule J III 8 (a) and have not been
nominated under rule J III 8 (b), provided that they
are eligible under rule J III 7.

Rule 9
Whenever possible the medal and prize shall be presented in
some public manner.

Rule 10
There shall be published in each volume of the proceedings
a complete list of awards of the Hamilton Memorial Medal
and Prize.

SECTION J VIII—THE BENSON FUND
Rule J VIII 4 was amended to read:

The revenue from the fund shall be applied by resolution
of the Council to the payment, in part or in whole, of the
cost of preparing or printing geological maps or other scientific
illustrations accompanying papers accepted for publication by
the Society.

Assignment of Foreshore Licence for Jetty at Schoolhouse Bay,
Kawau Island

PURSUANT to the Harbours Act 1950, the Secretary for Marine
hereby gives notice that the licence granted to Herman Holdings Ltd. on 3 November 1955* to use and occupy a part of
the foreshore and bed of the sea at Schoolhouse Bay, Kawau
Island, for the purposes of maintaining thereon a jetty, is
hereby assigned to Ernest Max Rolfe and Dorothy June Rolfe
and their administrators, executors, or assigns.
