Setting Apart Maori Freehold Land as a Maori Reservation
Notice is given that, pursuant to section 439 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart as a Maori reservation for the purpose of a burial ground and place of historical interest for the common use and benefit of members of the Ngamahine tribe.

Notice of Varied Hours for Sale of Liquor at the Southern Cross Hotel, Dunedin
PURSUANT to section 221A (16) of the Sale of Liquor Act 1962, as inserted by the Sale of Liquor Amendment Act (No. 2) 1967, I, John Lochiel Robson, Secretary for Justice, hereby give notice that the Licensing Control Commission, on 5 February 1969, made an order fixing hours other than the usual hours for opening and closing the Southern Cross Hotel, Dunedin, for sale of liquor to the public, namely, that such hotel premises be authorised to open at 9 o’clock in the morning and close at 8 o’clock in the evening, Mondays to Saturdays inclusive.

Consenting to Raising of Loans by Certain Local Authorities

Decision of the Indecent Publications Tribunal
No. 138
IN the matter of the Indecent Publications Act 1963, and in the matter of an application by the Secretary for Justice for a decision in respect of the magazine Weird, Vol. 2, No. 9.
DECISION OF THE TRIBUNAL
APPLICATION has been made to the Tribunal for a classification of the October 1968 issue, Vol. 2, No. 9, of a bi-monthly periodical called Weird, published by Eerie Publications Inc., New York. Mr R. C. Savage, of the Crown Law Office, appeared for the Secretary for Justice. Mr R. A. Heron of Counsel, appeared for the New Zealand distributors, Gordon and Gotch Ltd., but did not wish to make submissions.
The magazine consists largely of crude black and white drawings with conversation in cartoonists’ “balloons” and a small thread of connecting narrative. The cover is in colour and is over-dramatised and calculated to horrify.
Mr Savage called in evidence Mr D. H. Ross, a qualified and experienced psychologist. Mr Ross deposed that his experience led him to the conclusion that exposure to a single issue of a periodical such as that under consideration would not cause lasting harm to the immature mind, but it might cause real anxiety and even terror. Frequent exposure, on the other hand, would have a blunting effect on the sensitivity of any child towards the concept of aggression, and, in the
