Appointments, Promotions, and Terminations of Appointment
in the Royal New Zealand Navy

PURSUANT to the Navy Act 1954, His Excellency the Governor-General has approved the following appointments, promotions, and terminations of appointment in the Royal New Zealand Navy.

Surgeon Lieutenant Commander J. S. W. Frew, promoted to rank of Surgeon Commander and reappointed, to date 30 June 1967.

Lieutenant Commander C. R. Vennell, promoted to rank of Commander and reappointed, to date 30 June 1967.

Lieutenant D. Bell, to be granted acting rank of Lieutenant Commander whilst holding post on a date to be reported.

Midshipman G. C. Richardson, to be promoted to rank of Acting Sub-Lieutenant and reappointed, to date 1 September 1967.

Cadet C. H. Long, released (own request), to date 25 July 1967.

Surgeon Lieutenant A. J. Newson, RNZNVR, entered under a three-year short-service engagement, in rank of Surgeon Lieutenant with seniority of 1 August 1961, to date 1 August 1967.

PURSUANT to section 16 of the New Zealand Army Act 1950, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army:

With reference to the notice published in the Gazette, 27 July 1967, No. 47, page 1268, relating to 40632 Corporal James Beverly Bickner, for the name “Beverly” substitute “Beverley.”

Brigadier D. A. Caughley, M.B.E., having reached retiring age for rank, is transferred to the Supernumerary List and re-engaged until 11 September 1967. Dated 8 August 1967.

Captain John Douglas Broadbent, from the 1st Transport Company (General Transport), RNZASC, is granted a short-service commission for a period of three years in the rank of Captain. Dated 31 July 1967.

1st Construction Squadron, RNZE

Lieutenant David John Pittman is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Corps of Royal N.Z. Engineers, in the rank of Lieutenant. Dated 30 July 1967.

ROYAL N.Z. CORPS OF SIGNALS

Regular Force

Major W. H. Dyson, M.B.E., having reached retiring age for rank, is transferred to the Supernumerary List and re-engaged for one year as from 30 May 1967. Dated 29 May 1967.

Major N. A. Sharp is re-engaged for a term of one year as from 11 April 1967.

Captain and Quartermaster Peter Hetherington Martin is posted to the Retired List in the rank of Major. Dated 20 August 1967.

Lieutenant (on prob.) J. R. Webb is re-engaged for one year as from 8 January 1969.

Captain and Quartermaster J. S. Wooster, having reached retiring age for rank, is transferred to the Supernumerary List and re-engaged for three years. Dated 19 July 1967.

Lieutenant Derek Roy Truscott, S.D.O.(N.Z.), is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, The Corps of Royal N.Z. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, in the rank of Lieutenant. Dated 26 July 1967.

ROYAL N.Z. DENTAL CORPS

Regular Force

Captain I. G. Short, B.D.S., is re-engaged for the period 14 July 1967 to 30 September 1967.

The short-service engagement of Captain D. H. J. Salter, B.D.S., is extended until 14 April 1968.

Territorial Force

Lieutenant James Henry Alexander Robertson, B.D.S., ceases to be posted to the Otago University Medical Company, RNZAMC, and resigns his commission. Dated 1 June 1967.

Regular Force

The Rev. M. L. Dine, Chaplain 4th Class (Methodist), is re-engaged for three years as from 1 February 1968.

Shirley Anne Griffin is granted a short-service commission for a period of two years in the rank of Sister with seniority from 24 July 1964. Dated 24 July 1967.
