Notice of Final Decision of New Zealand Geographic Board re Assigning of Place Names

WHEREAS, pursuant to section 12 of the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 1946, notice was given on the 26th day of September 1966 of the intention of the New Zealand Geographic Board to assign the names set out in the Schedule attached to the said notice: and whereas, pursuant to section 13 of the said Act, no objections have been received to such of the proposed names as are set out in the Schedule hereto:

Now, therefore, pursuant to sections 14 and 15 of the said Act, notice is hereby given that the names set out in the Schedule hereto are final decisions of the Board and that such decisions will take effect on the 27th day of March 1967.

Plans showing the location of the features may be inspected at the office of the Chief Surveyor for the Department, or at the office of the Secretary of the Board.

Whatupuke Island .. Island immediately west of Coppermine Island in the Marotiri Islands (Chickens Group).

Crater Bay .. .. | Bay on north-eastern coast of Aorangi Island, between Urupa Point and Arid Point.
Fraser Landing .. .. | Rock platform sloping down to sea, on eastern coast of Aorangi Island.
Maomao Bay .. .. | Bay immediately south of Te Paki Point, on the western coast of Tawhiti Rahi Island. Instead of "Moumou Bay", shown on maps.
Maroro Bay .. .. | Large bay on western side of Aorangi Island. Instead of "Maoro Bay" shown on maps.
Motu Kapiti Island .. | Most prominent of the five stacks which lie between Aorangi and Tawhiti Rahi Islands.
Oneho Hill .. .. | Trig station and summit of Aorangi Island.
Pinakitanga Point .. | Small point on the south-east coast of Aorangi Island, opposite Aorangaia Island.
Puketuaho .. .. | The highest point of the plateau on Tawhiti Rahi Island.
Puweto Valley .. .. | Wide valley, with northerly aspect, which forms most of the area of Aorangi Island.
Rocklily Inlet .. .. | Deep, rock-walled inlet on the eastern coast of Tawhiti Rahi Island.
Tatua Peak .. .. | Peak at the head of Puweto Valley, on Aorangi Island.
Te Araara Point .. | Point immediately south of Maomao Bay. Instead of "Araora Point", shown on maps.
Tuatara Pool .. .. | Pool at the source of the stream which drains Puweto Valley, Aorangi Island.
Valley Cliffs .. .. | Inland cliffs along western side of Puweto Valley, Aorangi Island.

Waitemata County

Waiatarua .. .. | Block V, Titirangi Survey District, Locality, approximately 14 miles south-westwards by road from Auckland City. At present known as "Nihotupu".

Kohirikiriki .. .. | Trig 86, Block VI, Hangaroa Survey District. Instead of "Koherekireki", shown on current maps.
Ngapuketurua .. .. | Trig R VII, Block XIV, Waioeka South Survey District. Not "Ngapukeriki", shown on some maps.
Potts Peak .. .. | Peak 50 chains west-north-west of Trig 1328, Honokawa in Block XI, Raukumara West Survey District.

Hidden Valley .. .. | On the north-western slopes of Mount Egmont, adjacent to Upson Stream.
Kaitake Range .. .. | The outlying range at the north-west area of Egmont National Park.
Paul Stream and Falls .. | North-west Egmont. Flows from the southern slopes of Pouakai Range into Stony River.
Peters Stream .. .. | North-west Egmont. For the Stony River tributary "Mountain Branch."
Sawtooth .. .. | Rock formation on north side of Mount Egmont.
Snow Bowl .. .. | A skiing ground on the slopes of Fanthams Peak, Mount Egmont.
The Big D .. .. | A large island in the Waiwhakaiho River. North-east Egmont.
Waiwhakaiho River .. | Flows from north-east slopes of Mount Egmont. Instead of "Waiwakaiho River", shown on maps.

Bark Bay Reef .. .. | Block X, Totaranui Survey District. A reef, approximately 60 chains east of Bark Bay.
Bluff Creek .. .. | Block X, Pakawau Survey District. Drains eastwards between the two peaks of Mount Burnett.
Confirmation Creek .. | Block X, Pakawau Survey District. North branch tributary of Marble Creek.
Coquille Bay .. .. | Block VI, Kaiteriteri Survey District. The bay immediately west of Guilbert Point.
