Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961—Electrical Apparatus Which Constitutes an Electrical Hazard

PURSUANT to regulation 8 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961, notice is hereby given that:

  1. The device described below, in my opinion, constitutes an electrical hazard.

Description: A heavy duty three-core flexible extension cord, marketed under the name “Powerflo”.

Manufacturer: Urlwin Industries Ltd., Waltham, Christchurch.

  1. The electrical hazard arises from the omission of an effective cord grip in the cord-extension socket fitted to one end of the extension cord. The cord-extension socket is marked “Enzide Cat. 99”. The manufacturer of the socket provides a cord grip and this has been completely cut off in the assembly of the extension cord.

The cord grip provided by the manufacturer of the socket is considered essential in the safe use of the socket.

  1. All persons who have purchased a “Powerflo” extension cord as described above are advised to refrain from using same until the electrical hazard referred to has been rectified.

  2. Every person who sells or offers for sale any device which, in the opinion of the General Manager of the New Zealand Electricity Department, constitutes, or may constitute an electrical hazard commits an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £20.

Dated at Wellington this 30th day of May 1967.
