Boundaries of the County of Geraldine, Mt. Peel Riding, and the Temuka Riding of the County of Geraldine Defined


PURSUANT to section 88 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby defines, as set out in the Schedule hereto, the boundaries of the County of Geraldine, Mt. Peel Riding, and the Temuka Riding of the County of Geraldine, the previous boundaries having been altered by Orders in Council made on the 10th day of February 1964 and on the 18th day of May 1966, and published in Gazette, 20 February 1964, No. 8, page 212, and 19 May 1966, No. 28, page 792, respectively.


SCHEDULE

BOUNDARIES OF THE COUNTY OF GERALDINE

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District containing 495,604 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Rangitata River and proceeding south-westerly to and along the mean high-water mark of the sea to the middle of the Opihi River; thence north-westerly and northerly generally up the middle of the Opihi and Opuha Rivers to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section 36096; thence north-easterly to and along that boundary and its production across a public road to the south-western boundary of Section 7A, Four Peaks Settlement; thence north-westerly and north-easterly along the south-western and north-western boundaries of that section and northerly generally along the western boundary of Section 26, Tripp Settlement, and its production to the middle of the Mowbray River; thence south-easterly generally up the middle of that river to and along the north-eastern boundary of Section 26, Tripp Settlement, and the northern boundary of Section 25, Tripp Settlement, to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 24, Tripp Settlement; thence north-easterly generally to and along that boundary, the abutment of a public road, again the north-western boundary of Section 24, Tripp Settlement, and the north-western boundary of Run 240 to the western boundary of Rural Section 34447; thence northerly along the production of that boundary to the middle of Howards Stream; thence easterly down the middle of that stream to the middle of the Orari River; thence northerly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the southern boundary of Run 276; thence easterly and north-westerly generally to and along the southern and north-eastern boundaries of that run to the north-eastern corner of Run 2; thence south-westerly generally along the north-western boundary of that run to the middle of the Phantom River; thence to and north-westerly generally along the south-western boundary of Run 241 and its production to the middle of Forest Creek; thence south-westerly generally up the middle of that creek to its source on the Two Thumb Range; thence northerly generally to and along the summit of that range to the northern boundary of Run 110B; thence easterly generally along the northern boundary of Run 110B and the middle of the Forbes River to the middle of the Havelock River; thence south-easterly down the middle of that river and the middle of the Rangitata River to the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough of Geraldine as described in Gazette 1953, page 617, and the Borough of Temuka as described in Gazette 1967, page 596.

BOUNDARIES OF MT. PEEL RIDING

ALL that area in the Geraldine County, Canterbury Land District, bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the Rangitata River in line with the middle of Bridge Street, Town of Arundel (No. 72 Provincial State Highway), the said point being on the boundary of the County of Geraldine hereinbefore described, and proceeding north-westerly, south-westerly, south-easterly, and south-westerly generally along the said boundary to a point in the middle of the Opuha River in line with the north-western boundary of Rural Section 19382, Block V, Opihi Survey District; thence north-easterly along a right line to a point in the middle of the Hae Hae Te Moana River in line with the western boundary of Section 3A, Four Peaks Settlement; thence easterly generally down the middle of that river to the middle of Leismans Road; thence north-westerly along the middle of that road, Clayton Pack Track, and Pleasant Gully Road to the south-eastern boundary of Section 26, Tripp Settlement; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 26 and 25, Tripp Settlement, to the south-western boundary of former Rural Section 25031; thence north-westerly along that boundary and its production to the middle of a stream forming the northern boundaries of former Rural Sections 25031 and 27546 and Rural Sections 32263 and 36028; thence easterly down the middle of that stream to the middle of the Waihi River; thence south-easterly down the middle of that river to a point in line with the western boundary of Section 9, Tripp Settlement; thence northerly and easterly to and along that boundary and the northern boundaries of Sections 8, 7, and 6B and the western boundary of Section 6A, Tripp Settlement, and its production to the middle of McLeods Road; thence easterly along the middle of that road and Yates Road to Orari Gorge Road; thence northerly along the middle of that road and a public road passing through Section 28, Tripp Settlement, and forming the western boundary of part Rural Section 23239 to the middle of Orari Gorge Road; thence easterly generally along the middle of that road, Boundary Road, a road forming the northern boundaries of Rural Sections 32091 and 32693, Peel Street, and Bridge Street (No. 72 Provincial State Highway) to the point of commencement.


BOUNDARIES OF TEMUKA RIDING

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, County of Geraldine, bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the mouth of the Rangitata River and proceeding south-westerly to and along the mean high-water mark of the sea to the middle of the Opihi River; thence north-westerly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the middle of a road forming the eastern boundary of Rural Section 22911, Block III, Pareora Survey District; thence northerly to and along the middle of that road, River Road, and Gully Bush Road to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Reserve 4708; thence to and along that boundary and its production to the middle of Galbraith Road; thence easterly generally along the middle of that road, South Boundary Road, Goodwin Road, and Winchester Hanging Rock Road and the production of the last-mentioned road to the middle of No. 72 Provincial State Highway (Woodend-Winchester); thence northerly along the middle of that road to a point in line with the middle of College Road; thence easterly generally along the middle of that road and its production to the middle of the South Island Main Trunk Railway; thence north-easterly generally along the middle of that railway to the middle of the Rangitata River; thence south-easterly generally down the middle of that river to the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the Borough of Temuka as described in Gazette 1967, page 596.
