Special Order Made by Patea County Council Altering Riding Boundaries

PURSUANT to section 88 of the Counties Act 1956, the Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby publishes the following special order made by Patea County Council.

SPECIAL ORDER

IN exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the Counties Act 1956, the Patea County Council resolves, by way of special order, as follows:

  1. The present division of the County of Patea into nine ridings is revoked and in lieu thereof the said County shall be divided into seven ridings to be called respectively:

Kapara Riding,
Omahine Riding,
Moumahaki Riding,
Waverley Riding,
Kohi Riding,
Whenuakura Riding, and
Otoia Riding

which said ridings are respectively described in the Schedule hereto.

  1. The said Patea County Council shall consist of 10 members who shall be elected as follows:

(a) The electors of the Kapara Riding, Omahine Riding, Moumahaki Riding, Waverley Riding, and Kohi Riding shall each elect one councillor;

(b) The electors of the Whenuakura Riding shall elect two councillors;

(c) The electors of the Otoia Riding shall elect three councillors.

  1. The alteration hereby made shall take effect as from 1 April 1967, or on and after the date on which it is gazetted, whichever date is the later.

SCHEDULE

KAPARA RIDING

ALL that area of land in the Patea County bounded by the Waitotara River commencing at the Mangaone Stream mouth to the intersection of the said river with the Confiscation Boundary Line; thence along the Confiscation line to Hawera County and bounded thence by the Counties of Hawera, Eltham, Stratford, and Waitotara to the point of commencement.

KOHI RIDING

ALL that area of land in the Patea County bounded by the sea coast from the southernmost corner of Section 362, Block X, Wairoa Survey District, to the mouth of the Whenuakura River; thence along the Whenuakura River to the Confiscation Boundary Line; thence along the said boundary line in an easterly direction until this line crosses the Omahine Stream; thence southerly along the said stream to the south-easternmost corner of Section 2, Block 12, Opaku Survey District; thence along the southern boundary to the Moturoa Road; thence north along this road to its junction with Okahutiria Road; thence south along the latter road to the northernmost corner of Section 455, Block V, Carlyle Survey District; thence along its northern boundary to the Taranaki Land District boundary which it follows to the Kohi Road; thence along the said road to the northernmost corner of Section 426, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections 426 and 196; thence along the latter’s southern boundary to the Kohi Road from whence it follows to State Highway No. 3; thence along the said highway to the northernmost corner of the Okotuku Domain; thence along the north and east boundaries of the said domain to Ihupuku Road; thence along the east and south boundaries of Lot 5, D.P. 6305, Block 6, Wairoa Survey District, continuing along the southern boundary of Section 339, Block 6, Wairoa Survey District, to Peat Road whence it follows in a southerly direction to Tuke Road whence it follows in an easterly direction to the northernmost corner, Lot 7, D.P. 6306; thence along its western boundary to Waipipi Road from which it follows the northern and eastern boundaries of Sections 148 and 362, Block X, Wairoa Survey District, to its junction with Section 2, Block X, Wairoa Survey District; thence in an easterly direction along the boundary of the latter section to the point of commencement.

WAVERLEY RIDING

ALL that area of land in the Patea County bounded by the sea coast from the mouth of the Wairoa Stream to the southernmost corner of Section 2, Block X, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the eastern boundary of the described “Waverley Blue Riding” to the Confiscation Boundary Line; thence along the said Confiscation Boundary Line in an easterly direction to the Taranaki Land District boundary; thence along the said boundary to Section 2, Block 3, Omahine Survey District, and thence bounded by the said Block 3 and by the eastern boundary of Sections 7, 6, and 5 in Block 2, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the southern boundary of the said Section 5 to a point where it meets Section 73, Block 2, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the eastern boundary of the said Section 73, together with Section 72, to the Ōkotuku Road; thence along the western boundaries of Sections 69 and 68, Block 2, Wairoa Survey District; thence along Moturoa Road to the northernmost corner of Section 52, Block 7, Wairoa Survey District; thence in a southerly direction along the eastern boundary of the said Section, together with boundaries of Sections 51, 50, and 48, being in Block 7, Wairoa Survey District; thence along No. 3 State Highway to the north-eastern corner of part Lot 26, D.P. 5291; thence along the eastern boundary of the said lot, together with the eastern and southern boundaries of part Lot 27, D.P. 5291; thence in a southerly direction along Herengawe Road to Ihupuku Road; thence in a westerly direction along Ihupuku Road to the north-westernmost corner of Section 243, Block XI, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the western boundary of the said Section together with the respective boundary of Section 244, Block XI, Wairoa Survey District; thence westerly along Tuke Road to the north-easternmost corner of Section 259, Block X, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections 259, 276, and 260, Block X, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the northern boundary of Lot 13, D.P. 6306, to the mouth of the Wairoa Stream being the point of commencement.

Omitted from the said above area shall be that area enclosed by the Waverley town boundary.

MOUMAHAKI RIDING

ALL that area of land in the Patea County bounded by the sea coast from the south-eastern corner of Run 4, Block XI, Wairoa Survey District, to the mouth of the Wairoa Stream; thence along the boundary of the said “Waverley Orange Riding” to the Taranaki Land District Boundary whence it follows the northernmost corner of Section 11; thence along the eastern boundaries of Sections 11, 10, 8, and 1 of Block IV, Omahine Survey District, together with the eastern boundaries of Sections 29, part 28, part 27, Block III, Wairoa Survey District; thence along part north, east, and part southern boundaries of Section 3, Block IV, Wairoa Survey District; thence along the western boundary of Section 2, Block IV, Wairoa Survey District; thence following the Mangawhio Road to the Moumahaki Stream (Beltons Bridge); thence following the said stream to the north-easternmost corner of the smaller portion of Lot 1, D.P. 3765; thence along the northern boundary of the said Lot, together with the north and eastern boundaries of Lot 2, D.P. 3765; thence along Te Ore Ore Road in a westerly direction to the north-westernmost corner of Lot 2, D.P. 10291, whence it follows the said Lots’ western boundary, together with the similar boundary of part Section 398, Block VIII, Wairoa Survey District; thence west along No. 3 State Highway to Lower Okotuku Road, whence it follows to Ihupuku Road; thence along the eastern boundary of Block XI, Wairoa Survey District, to the point of commencement.

OMAHINE RIDING

ALL that area of land in the Patea County bounded by the sea coast from the mouth of the Waitotara River to the south-westernmost corner of Run 5, Block 12, Wairoa Survey District, and bounded thence respectively by the said Moumahaki “Green” and Kapara Ridings and thence follow the Waitotara River to its mouth and being the point of commencement.

WHENUAKURA RIDING

ALL that area in the Taranaki and Wellington Land Districts comprising portion of the Patea County, bounded by a line commencing on the sea coast at a point in the middle of the Patea River and proceeding in a generally northerly direction up the middle of that river to the boundary of the Patea County as described in N.Z. Gazette 1928, page 698, being a point in line with the north-western boundary of the Rotorangi Block; thence north-easterly to and along that boundary to the northernmost corner of that block; thence southerly and south-easterly along the eastern and north-eastern boundaries of the said Rotorangi Block to Trig. Station Rimunui; thence south-easterly along the Confiscation Line to the middle of the Whenuakura River; thence generally south-westerly down the middle of that river to the sea coast; thence generally north-westerly along the sea coast to the point of commencement.

OTOIA RIDING

ALL that area in the Taranaki Land District comprising portion of the Patea County, bounded by a line commencing on the sea coast in the middle of the Manawapou River, being a point on the boundary of the Patea County as described in N.Z. Gazette 1928, page 697; thence proceeding north-easterly generally along the boundary of that county to the middle of the Patea River; thence generally southerly down the middle of that river to a point in line with the northern boundary of Part Section 75, Patea Surburban; thence westerly along a right line to the northern boundary of the said Part Section 75 being a point on the boundary of the Patea Borough as described in N.Z. Gazette 1881, page 1266; thence westerly and south-westerly along the boundary of that borough to the sea coast; thence north-westerly generally along the sea coast to the point of commencement.

I hereby confirm that the above Special Order was passed at a special meeting of the Patea County Council held on 14 February 1967, and confirmed at the ordinary meeting of the Council held on 14 March 1967.
