Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961—Electrical Apparatus Which May Constitute an Electrical Hazard
PURSUANT to regulation 8 of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961, notice is hereby given that:
- The appliance described below may, in my opinion, constitute an electrical hazard.
Description: An electrically-operated soldering iron consisting of a copper off-set soldering bit in which an electric element is inserted, and assembled in a tubular stem marked “V220” and rubber handle grip. The element is connected by means of a two-core flexible cord with 11/·007 in. conductors and a moulded-on two-pin round-pin plug. A separate and shorter green covered conductor is connected to the metalwork of the appliance.
Trade Name: “Leset 2”.
Manufacturer: S.a.s. di Lowenthal and Cie., Turino, Italy.
-
The possible electrical hazard arises from the omission of an earth connection to exposed metalwork of the appliance by means of an earth-continuity conductor that forms part of the flexible cord and is connected to a separate earthing terminal of the plug. Such connection is considered to be a necessary safety precaution to prevent the metalwork becoming alive.
-
All persons who have purchased a “Leset 2” electrically-operated soldering iron as described above are advised to refrain from using same until the possible electrical hazard referred to has been removed.
-
Every person who sells or offers for sale any appliance which in the opinion of the General Manager of the New Zealand Electricity Department constitutes or may constitute an electrical hazard commits an offence and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding £20.
Dated at Wellington this 9th day of November 1966.
E. B. MACKENZIE,
General Manager, New Zealand Electricity Department.
