Releasing Land From the Provisions of Part XXIV of the
Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Hokianga Development Scheme)

———

PURSUANT to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the
Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on and from the
date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land
described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to
the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953,
the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated
20 November 1963, and published in the Gazette, No. 76,
Volume III, page 1916, on 28 November 1963.

ALL that piece of land described and situated as follows:

Declaring Public Highways to be State Highways

———

PURSUANT to section 11 of the National Roads Act 1953, the
National Roads Board, acting with the written approval
of the Minister of Works, hereby gives notice that the public
highways described in the Schedule hereto are hereby declared
to be State highways within the meaning and for the
purposes of the National Roads Act 1953, as from and includ-
ing the 1st day of April 1965.

SCHEDULE

PART I

General Description of State Highways

NORTH ISLAND

No. 53 State Highway (Featherston-Martinborough)—Com-
mencing at its junction with No. 2 State Highway at Feathers-
ton and proceeding thence to Martinborough via Kaiwaiwai
and Tawaha.

SOUTH ISLAND

No. 8A State Highway (Tarras-Luggate)—Commencing at
its junction with No. 8 State Highway, 55 chains south of Tar-
ras township and proceeding via the Luggate Bridge to join
with No. 6 State Highway one mile north of Luggate township.

No. 91 State Highway (Balclutha-Kaitangata)—Commenc-
ing at its junction with No. 1 State Highway, 1 chain north
of the Balclutha Bridge and proceeding thence to its termina-
tion in the Borough of Kaitangata via Stirling.

PART II

Detailed Description of State Highways in Towns

NORTH ISLAND

Featherston—
No. 53 State Highway. From the junction of Revans Street
and State Highway 2, along Revans Street to the eastern
boundary of the borough.

Martinborough—
No. 53 State Highway. From the north-western boundary
of the borough and proceeding thence via Kitchener
Street to terminate in Memorial Square.

SOUTH ISLAND

Kaitangata—
No. 91 State Highway. From the western boundary of the
Borough and proceeding thence via Clyde Street, Exmouth
Street, Eddyston Street, and Bembridge Street to terminate
at the junction of Bembridge Street and Davidson Street.

Special Order Made by Ellesmere County Council Altering
Riding Boundaries

———

PURSUANT to section 88 of the Counties Act 1956, the
Secretary for Internal Affairs hereby publishes the following
Special Order made by the Ellesmere County Council.

SPECIAL ORDER

IN exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the
Counties Act 1956, and amendments thereto, the Ellesmere
County Council resolves by way of Special Order as follows:

  1. The present division of the County of Ellesmere into
    eight ridings is revoked and in lieu thereof the said county
    shall be divided into seven ridings to be called Greenpark
    Riding, Springston Riding, Irwell Riding, Southbridge Riding,
    Rakaia Riding, Southbridge Town Riding, and Leeston Town
    Riding, which said ridings are respectively described in the
    Schedule hereto.

  2. The said Ellesmere County Council shall consist of 13
    members, who shall be elected as follows:

    (a) The electors of the Greenpark Riding, Springston
    Riding, Southbridge Riding, and Rakaia Riding shall
    each elect two councillors.

    (b) The electors of the Irwell Riding shall elect three
    councillors.

    (c) The electors of the Leeston Town Riding and the
    Southbridge Town Riding shall each elect one
    councillor.

  3. The alteration hereby made shall take effect on and after
    the 1st day of April 1965.

SCHEDULE

ALTERING and defining the boundaries of the Southbridge,
Irwell, Springston, Greenpark, and Rakaia Ridings of the
County of Ellesmere.

SOUTHBRIDGE RIDING

ALL that area in the County of Ellesmere, Canterbury Land
District, bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
sea coast in the middle of the mouth of the Rakaia River,
and proceeding north-westerly up the middle of that river
passing through Great Island to the middle of Old South
Road, Block XIV, Selwyn Survey District; thence north-
easterly along the middle of that road to a point in line with
the middle of Rakaia and Selwyn Road; thence north-
easterly to and along the middle of that road to the middle of
Tramway Road; thence south-easterly and easterly generally
along the middle lines of that road, Cowans Road, South-
bridge Sedgemere Road, and Ridge Road to the middle of
Lower Lake Road; thence northerly along the middle of that
road to a point in line with the southern boundary of Lot 1,
D.P. 13935; thence to and along that boundary and its pro-
duction to the western shore of Lake Ellesmere; thence
southerly generally along that shore to the northern boundary
of Section 22, Maori Reserve 878; thence easterly and southerly
along the northern and eastern boundaries of that section to
the sea coast; thence south-westerly along the sea coast to
the point of commencement, excluding therefrom the South-
bridge Town Riding as described in N.Z. Gazette, 1960, page
144.
