Tariff Notice No. 1965/23—Review of Former Tariff
Concessions
DECISIONS in respect of goods approved by the Minister of
Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in
Schedule I hereto, are to be reviewed.
Persons desiring, or objecting to, the admission of any of
these goods under Part II of the Tariff now in force should
lodge submissions in writing on or before 22 April 1965.
Submissions, headed "448 Review", should be prepared
separately for each of the decisions listed, and addressed to
the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, supported by information as to:
(a) Full details of composition and nature of the goods;
(b) Purpose for which they are to be used;
(c) Quantity and frequency of importation (in terms of
actual annual requirements);
(d) Usual source of supply;
N.B.—Where goods are not of Commonwealth
origin, information as to availability from Commonwealth sources should be supplied;
(e) Availability (in terms of quantity, range, supply, etc.)
of suitably equivalent goods of New Zealand production or manufacture.
Failure to supply information under all or any of the foregoing headings may prejudice consideration of the submissions.
Decisions in respect of goods approved by the Minister of Customs under item 448 of the former Tariff, as set out in Schedule II hereto, are revoked with effect from 22 April 1965. (The rates of duty for these goods under Part I of the Tariff now in force are the same or lower than the rates under item 448 of the former Tariff.)

Boots and other footwear-
Elastic goring, consisting of leather covered elastic strip
Fabrics, paper, celluloid, and similar materials, stiffened,
specially suited for making toecaps
Example-
Vulco toe puff material, being filter paper saturated
with bitumen or similar material but not being shaped or otherwise fabricated
Labels, moulded rubber, for rubber footwear
Lace ends, tags or tassels, or ornaments of imitation bone,
ivory, wood, metal, or metal and leather, except those containing precious metal
Leather backed with textile or elasticised material, plain, quilted, pleated, rucked, or similarly worked
Ornaments and ornamental fasteners for footwear, including poms and slides, but not including bows or metal buckles, and not including ornaments and ornamental fasteners composed wholly or partly of precious metal
Paper, boot socking, rubberised or backed with cotton wadding
Rubber foam in sheets or rolls, backed or faced with textile, and whether or not perforated, on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making insoles for footwear
Trimming, imitation fur, in the piece, having breaks in the pile to produce when cut lengthwise, a series of narrow strips of imitation fur
Twines, 2-16 ply, of approved qualities, for making footwear Approved-

Coates-X580 4 ply No. 25 heavy thread left twist

Tape, adhesive textile
Textiles-
Cotton twill material, double warp, plain, in the piece Fabrics, as may be approved

Textile piece goods (slipper cloth) on declaration for making slippers
Fabrics (not including quilted fabrics) declared for use solely in the manufacture of rubberised or backed fabrics for use in making footwear (other than slippers)

Fabrics quilted to wadding backed with textile
Foil covered textiles
Innersoling material (flannelboard socking) of cardboard faced with a cotton textile
Lastex adhesive backing material, an elastic fabric in the piece, for use as a backing for shoe upper leather
Leather or imitation leather fabric woven from narrow strips, whether or not cemented to a backing of textile Linings of wool and cotton
Nylon shoe upper material, being heavy loosely woven crochet-like fabric
Pieces of textile, embroidered, beaded, or similarly worked, and suited for cutting into uppers for footwear
Shoe matting, a canvas-like material, whether or not having a backing of textile cemented thereto
Teddy bear cloth, a woollen moquette
Textiles coated with a metallised film, e.g., Splendex Vamp stripping
The following materials declared for use only in making footwear other than slippers-
Fabrics (including felt fabrics and those made from paper yarn, but not including quilted fabrics)-
(a) rubberised or treated with rubber substitutes, or (b) consisting of woven material or laces or embroideries, fixed to a backing of textile
Bottles, graduated, of neutral glass, declared by a manufacturer for use by him only for packing intravenous solutions
Bottles, hot water-
Necks and bands on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making hot water bottles
Boxes, cardboard-
Paper, printed, declared by a manufacturer for use by him solely in making cardboard boxes
Brake or transmission liners, being brake or transmission lining cut into short lengths (in sets or otherwise), plain, pressed to shape, or bevelled at the edges, but not drilled, punched, or otherwise worked
Brushes, brooms, mops, carpet sweepers, etc.-
Ferrules, metal
Mohair pile fabric declared by a manufacturer for use by him solely in making floor wax applicators
Mop connectors, metal, other than round or oval, specially suited for attaching mops to handles on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making mops
Stampings, iron, plain and unbuilt for brush backs
Stampings, metal, for the manufacture of rotary wire brushes
Stampings, metal, in the rough, declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in making carpet sweepers
Stampings, non-ferrous strip metal, bent to shape for frames for brush backs
Twines, 2-16 ply, of approved qualities, for making brushes and brooms
Approved-
