Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 29—Public Inquiry Into Import Duties on Fork Lift Trucks

  1. The Tariff and Development Board proposes to inquire into and report on the question of the withdrawal of the present provisions allowing entry at concessionary rates of import duty of the following goods:

Tiering or fork lift trucks (including attachments such as crane booms, shovels or scoops, barrel forks, reel and drum clamps specially designed for use therewith) being self-propelled hoists for lifting goods on elevating forks or booms and stacking them in tiers.

The above goods are at present approved for entry at the following concessionary rates of import duty:

British Preferential Most Favoured Nation General Tariff
Free 20% 25%

Withdrawal of the concessional entry for the above-mentioned goods would result in such goods being liable to duty at the rates applicable to fork lift trucks under Tariff Item 719.320.1, viz:

British Preferential Australian Agreement Canadian Agreement General Tariff
25% 35% 35% 60%

In conjunction with this inquiry the Board will also review the following provisions for concessional entry of certain goods for use in the manufacture of fork lift trucks:

(a) Fork lift trucks, component parts of, as may be approved, imported in unassembled sets, when declared by a manufacturer for use by him only in the manufacture of fork lift trucks.

The present concessionary rates of import duty in respect of such goods are:

British Preferential General Tariff
Free 10%

(b) The following materials on declaration by a manufacturer for use by him only in making fork lift yarding machines:

Axles, drive
Converters, torque
Transmissions, power shift

The rates of import duty in respect of this concession are Free all sources.

  1. For the purpose of taking evidence on this subject the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Monday, 8 March 1965, at 10.30 a.m., in the Board Room, First Floor, New Zealand Law Society Building, Waring Taylor Street, Wellington.

  2. Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the “Notes for the Guidance of Witnesses”, which have been prepared by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the undernamed.

  3. Twelve copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes, should be lodged with the undernamed not later than Monday, 22 February 1965. Each statement will need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.

Declaring Land to be Subject to the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Onewhero Development Scheme)

Pursuant to section 330 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on and from the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953.

Releasing Land From the Provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953 (Whakatohea Development Scheme)

Pursuant to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 18 December 1930, and published in the Gazette, No. 90, Volume III, 23 December 1930, page 3908, and registered as W. 1697.

Pursuant to section 332 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby declares that on the date of the publication of this notice in the Gazette, the land described in the Schedule hereto shall cease to be subject to the provisions of Part XXIV of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, the said land being so subject by virtue of a notice dated 9 December 1929, and published in the Gazette, No. 83, Volume III, 12 December 1929, page 3264, and registered as No. K. 24406.
