The Wairarapa Electric Power Board Water Power and
Electric Lines Licence 1964

At the Government House at Wellington this 7th day of
October 1964
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to the Public Works Act 1928 and the Electric
Power Boards Act 1925, His Excellency the Governor-General
acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive
Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. This order may be cited as the Wairarapa Electric
    Power Board Water Power and Electric Lines Licence 1964.
  2. Subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth, the Waira-
    rapa Electric Power Board (hereinafter referred to as the
    licensee) is hereby granted a licence to obstruct, impound, or
    divert the waters of the Kourarau Stream, to raise or lower
    the level thereof, and to take and use therefrom, for the
    purpose hereinafter set forth, a stream of water not exceeding
    50 cu. ft. per second and also to lay, construct, put up, place,
    and use electric lines and to construct electric works within
    the area described in the First Schedule hereto.
  3. The conditions directed to be implied in all licences
    by the Water Power Regulations 1934 and the Electrical
    Supply Regulations 1935 shall be incorporated herein and
    shall form part of this licence, except in so far as they may
    be inconsistent with the provisions of this licence.
  4. This licence is issued under the Water Power Regula-
    tions 1934 and is subject thereto and to the Electrical Supply
    Regulations 1935, the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1961, the
    Radio Interference Regulations 1958, and to all regulations
    made in amendment thereof or in substitution therefor, except
    in so far as they may be inconsistent with the provisions
    of this licence.
  5. The water shall be taken from the Kourarau Stream
    at a point in Section 2, Block 13, Otahoua Survey District,
    and at a point in Section 87, Block 13, Otahoua Survey
    District, as indicated on the plan marked N.Z.E.D. 612
    deposited in the office of the New Zealand Electricity Depart-
    ment at Wellington. The water shall be used solely for the
    purpose of generating electricity.
  6. The licensee is hereby authorised, subject to the condi-
    tions hereof, to construct, maintain, and use the works
    described in the Second Schedule hereto, the position of the
    said works being indicated on the said plan N.Z.E.D. 612.
  7. The systems of supply shall be as described in para-
    graphs (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), and (h) of regulation
    21-01 of the Electrical Supply Regulations 1935.
  8. Nothing in this licence shall of itself be deemed to confer
    upon the licensee any right to water.
  9. This licence shall, unless sooner lawfully determined,
    continue in force until the 31st day of March 1985.
  10. The Orders in Council specified in the Third Schedule
    hereto are hereby revoked.

FIRST SCHEDULE
AREA OF SUPPLY
THE Wairarapa Electric Power District as defined in the
Schedule to the Proclamation dated the 10th day of Septem-
ber 1964 and published in the Gazette on the 17th day of the
same month at page 1555.

SECOND SCHEDULE
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF GENERATING WORKS
(a) Headworks, consisting of dams and the necessary in-
takes on the Kourarau Stream.
(b) A tunnel leading from dam No. 2 to surge tank No. 2
and thence to a pipeline to the upper powerhouse.
(c) Pipeline and tunnels leading from dam No. 1 to a
scour tank and to surge tank No. 1 and thence to the lower
power house.
(d) Two powerhouses with turbines and all necessary equip-
ment for generating electricity having a combined maximum
capacity of 770 kilowatts.
(g) A tail race leading from the lower powerhouse afore-
said to the Kourarau Stream. All as indicated on the said
plan N.Z.E.D. 612.

from the Retired List, Royal New Zealand Air Force, is granted
a short-service commission on the Supernumerary List for a
period of five years in the rank of Major. Dated 21 September
1964.
