The fund shall be vested in the Society. The Council of
the Society shall have control thereof and shall invest the same
in any securities proper for trust moneys. -
The revenue from the fund shall be applied by resolution
of Council or its Standing Committee to the payment in part
or in whole of the cost of preparing or printing geological
maps or other scientific illustrations accompanying papers
accepted for publication in the Society’s Transactions. -
Each geological map or other scientific illustration published entirely or in part through the support of the fund
shall bear the endorsement “Published with the support of the
Benson Fund of the Royal Society of New Zealand”. -
The Council of the Society at its General Meeting may
resolve that any part of the unexpended revenue from the
fund shall be added to the capital thereof.
FXI President's Fund:

The President’s Fund, established in 1964, by Dr C. A.
Fleming, shall consist of a capital sum, the revenue derived
from which shall be made available to the President to support the duties and responsibilities of his office. -
The fund shall be vested in the Society. The Council of
the Society shall have the control thereof and shall invest the
fund in such investments as it may in its absolute discretion
think fit and it may vary and transpose such investments from
time to time without being in any such case in any way liable
for any loss that may result therefrom. -
The net annual revenue of the fund, calculated during
the Society’s financial year ending 31 March after deduction of
administrative expenses together with any unexpended revenue
from previous years, shall be paid by the Secretary to the
President in whole or instalments on the request in writing
of the President who is in office during the following year. -
Revenue from the fund may be used by the President at
his sole discretion to support in whole or in part any one or
more of the following activities undertaken in his capacity as
President or for any other activities that he deems necessary
or desirable for the performance of his office and for the
furtherance of the charitable objects of the Society.
(a) For hospitality or entertainment.
(b) For travelling expenses for himself or for his deputy
both in New Zealand and overseas to deliver
addresses, attend scientific meetings, conferences,
formal celebrations, or meetings for presentation of
the Society’s awards.
(c) For stationery, postage, circulars, invitations, business
cards, secretarial services.
(d) For the support of any unbudgeted activities of the
Society that will in his judgment further the promotion of science in New Zealand.

Payments under the above rules shall require no resolution
of Council or its Standing Committee and the receipt or
endorsement of the President shall be sufficient discharge to
the Council for each such payment. -
The terms of these rules, and the disposal of both capital
and revenue in the President’s fund, may be varied by
resolution of the Council at its annual meeting by the
unanimous vote of all councillors present at that meeting
after notice of motion duly given under clause 11, section 2,
of the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1933.
