Approval of Dual Headlight Systems

Pursuant to regulation 49 of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Commissioner of Transport hereby approves the use of the dual headlight system described in the Schedule hereto as a compliance with regulation 35 (1) of the said regulations relating to the fitting of headlamps.

SCHEDULE
Toshiba dual sealed-beam apparatus consisting of two units, each unit incorporating two headlamps embossed with the symbols "1" and "2" respectively, and having a lens diameter of 53/4 in. When in use all four headlamps shall be illuminated to provide the main beams, and the two headlamps embossed with the symbol "2" shall be illuminated to provide the dipped beams.

The Standards Act 1941-Draft New Zealand Standard Specification No. D. 7546: 3-Pin Plugs, Plug Sockets, Tap-ons, and Cord-extension Sockets, with 10-amp., 250-V. (maximum) Rating (Revision of N.Z.S.S. 198:1958)

Pursuant to subsection (3) of section 8 of the Standards Act 1941, notice is hereby given that the above-mentioned draft New Zealand standard specification is being circulated. All persons who may be affected by this specification and who desire to comment thereon may, on application, obtain copies on loan from the New Zealand Standards Institute, Bowen State Building, Bowen Street, or Private Bag, Wellington C. 1.

The closing date for the receipt of comment is 24 January 1964.

Tobacco Growers' Insurance-Appointment of Assessor

Pursuant to regulation 35 of the Tobacco Growing Industry Regulations 1945,* the Tobacco Board has appointed the following panel assessor for the purpose of tobacco growers' insurance:

Approval of Red Reflectors for Motor Vehicles in Terms of the Traffic Regulations 1956

Pursuant to clause (2) of regulation 41 of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Commissioner of Transport hereby approves, for the purposes of the said regulations, the red reflectors of the make and types described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE
Red reflectors fitted as standard equipment to Chevrolet motor vehicles and marked "Guide 1. SAE.STDB. 64 'GUIDEX' ". Red reflectors fitted as standard equipment to Pontiac motor vehicles and marked "Guide 2. SAE.STDB 64 'GUIDEX' ".

Exemption of Caterpillar Tractor and Scraper Combination from the Usual Parking Brake Requirements

Pursuant to regulation 25A of the Traffic Regulations 1956,* the Commissioner of Transport hereby exempts vehicles of the class specified in the Schedule hereto from the requirements of the said regulations in relation to a parking brake, provided that the tractor and scraper are modified so as to be not readily detachable and the scoop is capable of being lowered on to the road surface to hold the vehicle when parked.

CATERPILLAR DW 15 Tractor unit and BIRTLEY No. 15 Scraper.

Amendments to Rules of the Royal Society of New Zealand

Pursuant to the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1933, the Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand has, at its meeting held on 21 November 1963, made the following amendments to its rules, which were published in the Gazette on 14 November 1935, Volume III, page 3315, and to any amendments relating thereto published subsequently:

SECTION A. RELATING TO ADMISSION AND DUTIES OF MEMBER BODIES RULES 1, 2, 3, and 4 of this section are amended to read:

“1. The Council may admit any scientific body to be a member body of the Society under the Royal Society of New Zealand Act 1933, provided that no body shall be admitted unless:

(a) It shall consist of not less than 25 members subscribing in the aggregate not less than £25 annually towards the promotion of those branches of science, the advancement of which is among the objects of the body as stated in its rules.

(b) The principal object of the body as stated in its rules shall be to advance one or more aspects of science, and the body shall for this purpose engage in some or all of the following activities:

(i) the holding of meetings and conferences for the delivery of papers on and the discussion of scientific topics;

(ii) the maintenance of a public museum, library, or observatory;

(iii) the publication of papers and reports of scientific research;
