Tariff Notice—Application for Determination of the Minister of Customs

NOTICE is hereby given that applications have been made for the imposition of duties at the rates set out below, by determination of the Minister of Customs, on the goods described hereunder:

1468 641.311.1 (a) Paperboard, plain, lined, or clay coated, but excluding greaseproof, P.E., or P.V.D.C. lined, suited for use in the manufacture of cartons and the like 25%
(b) Liner-paper and paperboard, printed, unprinted, coloured, or uncoloured, suited for use as inner or outer facing in the manufacture of corrugated, solid, or laminated fibreboard. (This material is alternatively known as kraft liner, semi-kraft liner or lightweight chip). 25%
1469 641.505.1 Box container, carton manufacturers boards and papers for the following uses:
(a) Undyed rigid box board for use as set-up boxes, stiffeners, pad backs, inserts, spiral winding, and for general packaging purposes
(b) Core paper, core paperboard, and core stock, as used for spiral or convolute winding into cores, made from woodpulp, broke screenings, waste paper, etc., or chipboard, strawboard, or board from screenings made for the purpose of winding to a desired thickness, for use by paper manufacturers and similar purposes
(c) Folding chip or chipboard, grey or any other colour, for use by the folding box industry, and as a packaging material, including spirally wound containers, shoe boxes, and other boxes for packing
(d) White lined folding screenings for use of the carton industry especially for multi colour printing
(e) Machine glazed, white lined manila, or fully bleached lined board of a folding box board type used for packaging purposes, and particularly for tobacco and cigarette packaging
(f) Machine-glazed duplex white (or any other colour), being a folding box board for use as a general packaging material (including drawn cap board for the manufacture of moulded or drawn cardboard caps for use as lids on some types of spirally wound containers)
(g) Waxing sulphite boards, food boards, bleached food board, including egg carton board, bleached lid board, milk board, and waxing board for use in food packaging
(h) Boxboard, except greaseproof, P.E., or P.V.D.C. coated, whether plain, lined, or clay coated
(i) Liner paper and paper board, whether made by Cylinder or Fourdrinier process, used as an inner or outer facing in the manufacture of corrugated, solid, or laminated fibre board, also known as kraft liner, semi-kraft liner, lightweight chip, or similar, whether or not printed and coloured, used for packaging
(j) Filler board for use as the centre ply in the manufacture of containers and boxes
(k) Container paper or paperboards consisting of a series of paper or paperboard being laminated or pasted, single or double lined, and also known as kraft chip or two sides kraft lined, used in the manufacture of bulk packaging containers and similar packaging purposes
(l) Facing paper or paperboard and back liner paper or paperboard for use in the wallboard industry
1470 641.923.1 Pasted or laminated sheets of woodpulp paperboard (Ivory Board) for use as a wallboard or for show-card use 25%
1471 655.410.1 Weftless fabrics of other than cotton, linen and jute fibres, exceeding 30 cm in width consisting of warp (parallelised yarns) assembled by means of an adhesive 25%
1472 684.210.1 Aluminium wire, hard drawn, annealed, in sizes up to and including 0·284 in. 15%
1473 693.130.1 (a) Aluminium stranded conductors, hard drawn 15%
(b) Aluminium stranded conductors, for insulated cables
(c) Aluminium conductors, steel cored
(d) Aluminium conductors, steel cored, high strength stranding

Any person wishing to lodge an objection to the granting of this application should do so in writing on or before 27 June 1963. Submissions, which should include reference to the application number, tariff item, and description of the goods, must be addressed to the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, and should be supported by information as to:

(a) The quality, range, supply, etc., of the above described goods produced in New Zealand; and

(b) The landed cost and selling price, including c.d.v., and cost into store in terms of f.o.b., insurance, freight, exchange, other landing charges, duty, etc., of equivalent goods of overseas origin.
