Any person wishing to lodge an objection to the granting of these applications should do so in writing on or before 4 April 1963. Submissions, which must be addressed to the Comptroller of Customs, Private Bag, Wellington, should be supported by information as to:
(a) The range of equivalent goods manufactured locally;
(b) The proportions of New Zealand and imported materials used in manufacture;
(c) Present and potential output; and
(d) Details of factory costs in terms of materials, labour, overhead, etc.

Tariff Notice—Applications for Withdrawal of Decisions of the Minister of Customs
NOTICE is hereby given that applications have been made for the withdrawal of the following goods from current decisions of the Minister of Customs permitting entry at concessionary rates of duty and for the future admission of such goods at the substantive rates of duty as shown:

Tariff and Development Board Notice No. 7—Public Inquiry into Import Duties on Elastic Fabrics and Textile Covered Threads
- The Tariff and Development Board proposes to inquire into and report on the question of what rates of import duty should be imposed on the under-mentioned goods:
Item Number
Ex 621.030.9 – Vulcanised rubber thread and cord, textile covered.
Ex 655.500.0 – Elastic fabrics and trimmings (other than knitted or crocheted goods) consisting of textile materials combined with rubber threads, up to and including 9 inches in width.
841.450.2 – Elastic fabrics, knitted or crocheted.
The present rates of import duty in respect of these items are:

British Preferential: 15 per cent.
General: 35 per cent.
Item Nos. 655.500.0 and 841.450.2
British Preferential: Free.
Most Favoured Nation: 10 per cent.
General: 12½ per cent.

For the purpose of taking evidence the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, 21 May 1963, at 10.30 a.m., in Room 102, First Floor, Departmental Building, Stout Street, Wellington.

Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the “Notes for the Guidance of Witnesses” which have been prepared by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the undernamed.

A typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with those notes, should be lodged with the undernamed not later than 7 May 1963. Each statement will, in general, need to be presented under oath at the public inquiry by the person tendering it.
