Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, Resignations, and Retirements of Officers of the New Zealand Army

Pursuant to section 16 of the New Zealand Army Act 1950, His Excellency the Administrator of the Government has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, resignations, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Army:

The engagement of Lieutenant and Quartermaster I. J. Doak, M.B.E., is extended from 19 July 1962 until 31 December 1962.

Captain James Garth Russell is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, in the rank of Captain. Dated 24 August 1962.

Captain Ian Harold Ellerm, M.B., CH.B., R.N.Z.A.M.C., relinquishes the appointment of R.M.O. and resigns his commission. Dated 20 September 1962.

Captain E. H. Poole to be temp. Major. Dated 1 October 1962.

Lieutenant-Colonel James Seaton Brown-Rennie relinquishes the appointment of C.O. and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps, in the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Dated 1 October 1962.

Major R. N. Barton, M.B.E., E.D., to be Lieutenant-Colonel and is appointed C.O. Dated 1 October 1962.

Lieutenant J. B. Johnston to be temp. Captain. Dated 30 June 1962.

Major R. J. Walton, E.D., to be Lieutenant-Colonel and is appointed C.R.A.S.C., N.Z. Division. Dated 1 October 1962.

The Rev. Thomas Patrick Cloher, Chaplain, 4th Class (Roman Catholic), from the Retired List, to be Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 30 May 1957 and is posted to Southern Military District/3rd Infantry Brigade Group Chaplains Pool. Dated 6 February 1962.

The Rev. Leo Vincent O'Connor, Chaplain, 4th Class (Roman Catholic), is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, Royal N.Z. Chaplains Department, in the rank of Chaplain, 4th Class. Dated 9 February 1962.

The Rev. Donald Jesse Wilson to be Chaplain, 4th Class (Church of England), and is posted to Southern Military District/3rd Infantry Brigade Group Chaplains Pool. Dated 23 August 1962.

Royal N.Z. Nursing Corps

Regular Force

The notice published in the Gazette, 9 August 1962, No. 50, page 1290, relating to the re-engagement of Matron K. Bland for the period 10 June 1961 to 31 December 1962, is hereby amended to read:

“Matron K. Bland is re-engaged for the period 10 June 1962 to 31 December 1962.”

Sister P. A. Robinson ceases to be seconded to the Royal N.Z. Navy and is seconded to the Royal N.Z. Air Force for duty. Dated 1 October 1962.

Territorial Force

Sister Averil Elizabeth Hastings ceases to be posted to “W” Coy, 2nd General Hospital, RNZAMC, and is posted to the Retired List. Dated 3 September 1962.

Territorial Officers Special Training Unit, Northern Military District/1st Infantry Brigade Group

Lieutenant Ronald David Patten is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, General List, Royal Regiment of N.Z. Artillery, in the rank of Lieutenant. Dated 13 August 1962.

Territorial Officers Special Training Unit, Southern Military District/3rd Infantry Brigade Group

Lieutenant (temp. Captain) H. J. B. Quigley, RNZ Inf, to be Captain. Dated 24 September 1962.

The notice published in the Gazette, 7 June 1962, No. 36, page 888, relating to Lieutenant E. W. Unwin is cancelled and the following substituted:

“Lieutenant E. W. Unwin, from the Reserve of Officers, Regimental List, 1st Battalion, The Canterbury Regiment, RNZ Inf, to be Lieutenant with seniority from 17 February 1958. Dated 26 April 1962.”
