Notice Relating to the Use of Insecticides (Notice No. Ag. 7378)

Pursuant to clause 3 (2) of the Stock (Insecticide and Oestrogens) Regulations 1961 (S/R 1961 No. 101), the Minister of Agriculture hereby gives notice that any insecticide registered as at 4 September 1961 under the Stock Remedies Act 1934 and containing as an active ingredient any of those chemicals specified in Schedule 1 hereto, but not containing any chemical specified in Schedule 2 hereto, is hereby approved for use in the manner prescribed by the proprietor for the control or destruction of arthropod parasites or other insect pests on cattle, sheep, or swine.

SCHEDULE 1
APPROVED ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Arsenic. Diazinon.
Asuntol (Co-Ral). Nankor (Ronnel).
Delnav (Hercules 528). Pyrethrin.
Derris (Rotenone).

Lindane form of B.H.C. of a purity of not less than 99 per cent of the gamma isomer may be used in dressings and ointments prescribed for flystrike in sheep and mange in swine and cattle except milking dairy cattle.

SCHEDULE 2
PROHIBITED ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Aldrin.
Benzene hexachloride.
D.D.T. (dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane).
Dieldrin.
Lindane—except as permitted for restricted use as set out in Schedule 1.
Methoxychlor.

INSECTICIDES FOR USE IN ANY SLAUGHTERING PLACE, MEAT PACKING HOUSE, OR CANNERY

Pursuant to clause 3 (2) of the Stock (Insecticides and Oestrogens) Regulations 1961 (S/R 1961 No. 101), notice is hereby given that in slaughtering places, meat-packing houses and canneries, the approved insecticides and conditions applying to their use, are as follows:

(a) Insecticides containing as an active ingredient the chemicals pyrethrin or pyrethrin in combination with piperonyl butoxide or MGK 264 may be used in any part of any premises in which meat or meat products are processed, packed or stored, provided that no meat or meat products, except canned meat or meat products, are present at the time of application of the insecticide.

(b) Insecticides containing as an active ingredient the chemicals diazinon, pyrethrin, and pyrethrin in combination with piperonyl butoxide or MGK 264 may be used in any part of any slaughtering place, meat-packing house, or cannery which is not used for the purpose of processing, packing, or storing meat or meat products.

(c) Insecticides containing as an active ingredient the chemicals asuntol, delnav, diazinon, or nankor may be used in any yard or other premises attached to a slaughtering place, meat-packing house, or cannery provided that no stock is contained in such yard or premises at the time of application of the insecticide.

Notice is also hereby given that those stock remedies registered as at 4 September 1961 under the Stock Remedies Act 1934 and specified in Schedule 3 hereto and any other insecticide which contains as an active ingredient any chemical specified in Schedule 2 are prohibited from use for the destruction or control of arthropod parasites or other insects on cattle, sheep, or swine, or in any slaughtering place, meat-packing house, or cannery.
