The Wairarapa College Board Order 1925, Amendment No. 1

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government House at Wellington this 16th day of August 1961
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to section 2 of the Education Amendment Act 1924, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.
ORDER
- (1) This order may be cited as the Wairarapa College Board Order 1925, Amendment No. 1, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the order providing for the single control of the Wairarapa High School and the Masterton Technical School made on the 15th day of October 1925 and published in the Gazette on the 22nd day of October 1925, Volume III, page 3004 (hereinafter referred to as the principal order).
(2) The said order made on the 15th day of October 1925 may hereafter be cited as the Wairarapa College Board Order 1925.

The principal order shall be read as if every reference therein to the Wairarapa Secondary Education Board were a reference to the Wairarapa College Board.

Clause 4 of the principal order is hereby amended as follows:
(a) By omitting from subclause (1) the word “April”, and substituting the word “May”;
(b) By omitting from subclause (3) the words “fourteenth day”, and substituting the words “twenty-first day”;
(c) By omitting from subclause (3) the words “‘Parent’ means both the father and the mother of a pupil of either school”, and substituting the words “‘Parent of a pupil’ includes a pupil’s guardian, and the householder in whose family the pupil resides, and both the father and mother of a pupil.”;
(d) By omitting from subclause (4) the words “fourteen days”, and substituting the words “twenty-eight days”;
(e) By omitting from subclause (8) the words “on the tenth day before the day of the election”, and substituting the words “not less than twenty-one days before the day of the closing of the poll”;
(f) By inserting in subclause (11), after the word “elector”, the words “(being a person whose name duly appears on the roll at the time when it is closed for the purposes of the election).”

The principal order is hereby amended by omitting from clause 6 the words “two years”, and substituting the words “three years”.

Clause 7 of the principal order is hereby amended by adding the following subclause:
“(4) Notwithstanding anything in the foregoing provisions of this clause, while a casual vacancy is to be filled by election, the Board may at its discretion decide that no election shall be held if the vacancy occurs after the month of October immediately preceding the next ordinary election and before the persons elected at the ordinary election assume office.”
- The principal order is hereby amended by inserting, after clause 8, the following clause:
“8A. Where anything connected with the appointment or election of members is omitted to be done or cannot be done at or by the time hereby prescribed, or is done after that time, or is otherwise irregularly done in matter of form, the Minister of Education may, at any time before or after the time at or by which that thing is required to be done, extend the time for doing that thing to such further time as he thinks fit, or may validate anything so done after the time required or so irregularly done in matter of form as he thinks fit.”
- Clause 9 of the principal order is hereby amended by omitting the word “May”, and substituting the word “June”.

Members of Tobacco Board Appointed
PURSUANT to section 3 (2) (c) of the Tobacco Growing Industry Act 1935, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to reappoint
Cecil Graham Chater and Lewis Peter Hamlin
to be members of the Tobacco Board as manufacturers’ representatives, both of whom retired on 31 July 1961 in pursuance of section 4 (3) of the above Act (as substituted by section 5 of the Tobacco Growing Industry Amendment Act 1951).
