Appointments in the Royal New Zealand Navy

Pursuant to the Navy Act 1954, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve the following appointments, promotions, and terminations of appointment in the Royal New Zealand Navy: Lieutenant Commander (SD) R. E. Ansley, M.B.E. (Retired List), to be released, to date 19 July 1961, and to revert to the Retired List, to date 20 July 1961. Acting Instructor Lieutenant G. M. Law, confirmed in rank, to date 11 January 1961, with seniority of 11 January 1960. Acting Sub-Lieutenant (SD) T. C. M. Raven, confirmed in rank, to date 27 December 1960, with seniority of 15 June 1959. Lieutenant Commander J. Grant RN (Retired), entered in the RNZN (Supplementary List), to date 8 February 1961, under a three-year short-service commission in the rank of Lieutenant Commander with seniority of 11 February 1956. Francis Leslie Short, entered in the RNZN, to date 6 February 1961, under a three-year short-service commission in the rank of Electrical Lieutenant (R) with seniority of 1 October 1952.

Honorary Finnish Vice-Consul in Auckland

His Excellency the Governor-General directs it to be notified that Mr Jerm T. Christiansen, until now Honorary Vice-Consul of Finland in Auckland, has relinquished his duties. Until the appointment of Mr Christiansen's successor the office will remain unoccupied.

Temporary Judge of the Supreme Court Appointed

His Excellency the Governor-General in Council has been pleased to appoint Wilfrid Erne Leicester, Esquire, of Wellington, to be a temporary Judge of the Supreme Court for a period of 12 months.

Member of Licensing Committee Appointed

Pursuant to section 49 of the Licensing Act 1908, His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to appoint Alexander Kirkpatrick, Esquire, J.P., of Hastings, to be a member of the Licensing Committee for the Licensing District of Hastings, vice Archie Leslie Ogilvy, Esquire, resigned.

Appointment of Committee of Inquiry

The Minister in Charge of Civil Aviation has appointed: Sir Jack Harris, BART, Chairman; H. B. Smith, Esquire; E. A. Gibson, Esquire, O.B.E., to be a Committee of Inquiry to examine available evidence, hear any additional evidence, and recommend to Government the most suitable site for a commercial airport to serve the Hawke's Bay area.

Board Appointed to Have Control of Tauranga Racecourse Domain

Pursuant to the Reserves and Domains Act 1953, the Minister of Lands hereby appoints James Patrick Cooney, Ernest Arthur Craig, Alan Lloyd Davidson, Sidney Reginald Ellis, John Colin Hare, Leslie John Hitchcock, Noel Harry Eugene Hockin, Kenneth Ramsden, and Lionel Charles Smith to be the Tauranga Racecourse Domain Board to have control of the reserve described in the Schedule hereto, subject to the provisions of the said Act, as a public domain.
