APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE FOR A WATER RACE

To the Warden of the Otago Mining District, at Oamaru.

Pursuant to the Mining Act 1926, the undersigned, John Edward Gard and Lyndsay Alexander Smith, both of Otiake, farmers, as tenants in common in equal shares, hereby apply for a licence for a water race, as specified in the Schedule hereto, the course whereof has been duly marked out for the purpose.

Precise time of marking out privilege applied for: 10 a.m. on 19 August 1960.

SCHEDULE

Locality of the race and of its starting and terminal points; also description of land traversed, e.g., unalienated Crown land, private land, or otherwise: Over Crown land situated at Otiake commencing at a peg marked X in Otiake Creek 230 yards in a northerly direction from the boundary between Sections 29A and 30A, Block XI, Maerewhenua S.D. Taking 3 heads of water therefrom and thence running in a north-easterly direction 300 yards to a peg marked X by McKellars Road; thence running 490 yards in a south-easterly direction to be flumed across an unnamed stream and continuing a further 183 yards in the same direction to a peg marked X; thence running 500 yards in a north-easterly direction to a peg marked X and thence 60 yards to a peg marked X in an unnamed dry gully; thence running 320 yards in a north-easterly direction to a peg marked X on the boundary of Sections 29A and 27A, Block XI, Maerewhenua S.D.; thence running 415 yards in a north-easterly direction to a peg marked X in an unnamed dry gully; thence running 44 yards in a north-easterly direction to a peg marked X, a further 650 yards in a northerly direction to a peg marked X, and a further 440 yards in a north-easterly direction to a peg marked X; thence running 340 yards in an easterly direction and terminating in a grassed dry-stream channel or artificial waterway constructed therein discharging to the Waitoura Creek, as more particularly shown on the plan annexed hereto.

Length and intended course of race: 2·1 miles.

Points of intake: Commencing at peg marked X in Otiake Creek 230 yards in a northerly direction from the boundary between Sections 29A and 30A, Maerewhenua S.D.

Estimated time and cost of construction: 6 months, £500.

Mean depth and breadth: 2 ft x 3 ft.

Number of heads to be diverted: 3 heads.

Purpose for which water is to be used: Stock watering, domestic, and irrigation.

Proposed term of licence: 42 years.

(2) Annual volume (including index) bound in buckram, 35s. per volume. (Volumes for years 1936–37 and 1939–42 are out of print.)
